I can't speak for all stores but when I was working for a big cellular company that was our policy. We had people steal items worth $100's of dollars and rarely called the police. We'd just fill out a form so corporate could handle it and cover our arse on monthly inventory we had to do.

On the rare occasions we had to get police involved was when people would steal display units off the wall.

Pretty much. I know some of the managers in there and the most they've done is watch someone try to walk out with food and basically just ask them if they need help checking out and the person goes from there. I've been in there when it's happened. Same for Winn-Dixie. Watch two B/Ms push 2 cart fulls of beer, liquor and meats through the entrance only doors. None of the young gun employees saw anything.

Every retail business has a no-intervention policy. This is nothing new.

The losses from stolen inventory are nothing compared to a potential lawsuit or PR hit that would result from someone stopping a thief who would then in return cry racism and media outrage ensues.

The Dollar Store says, "Hold my beer."

They should've just gone to Whole Foods.

The one on Corporate has ribeye's, nicely marbled and thick cut, probably about 22 oz., for $0.00 per pound.

Hell fire.
A policeman (real, not security) outside a restaurant in NOLA was a sign that it was a good, safer place to have an evening meal.

Yes. They'd rather not open themselves up to lawsuits or have employees get killed saving $100 worth of groceries.

that $100 in groceries turns in to 100k worth of groceries after they tell their community about this and it happens 10 times a day.

This policy isn't new. Or in any way exclusive to whole foods. Like I said, Walmart is pretty much the only one who will intervene.

Whole foods doesn't open in ghettos

The high dollar high theft items are usually wine and most keep dummy bottles or no more than one bottle on the floor at a time.

High theft items are the high dollar bottles that are widely known, like Dom or ace of spades. Most stores won't even carry ace of spades because of the obvious.

I don’t even know if I would feel bad stealing from Whole Paycheck.

But as a honkey they’d probably tackle me and throw the book at me

They won’t carry a popular wine because it’s more popular with black people?

The only reason I go to Whole Foods is for pizza dough, but I guess I know now I can save $4 on dough when I do go.

It's not a popular wine outside of the club scene.

For most shops, it's a number one target for theft. People come and steal it to sell it on their own.

And yes it's predominantly black people who A drink it and B steal it.

We should punish blatant thievery with the stocks and flogging.

Then branding the offender so everyone knows they are thieves

I was talking to a woman who manages a dollar type store. Prior to that, she worked in management for a grocery store. She shared the shrinkage figures with me and they were appalling. Due to lawsuits and publicity, retailers aren't really fighting shoplifting any more so thievery is rampant.

The thieves are often in cahoots with employees.

This lady is from the Monroe area and she said she was ready to go back home where there aren't thieves everywhere (which shows how sad this area is).

Instead of trying to work to get a decent life, the thieves get government benefits and shoplift.

Why not post somebody at the door to check receipts like Sams. With a cop on their flank.
