You are way too comfortable being in that area dude, especially with your child. Time to block certain sections of the city to a "off-limits" perimeter. Its actually best to try and not even be in Baton Rouge if you can help it.

I know why I live here: it’s the only city where I keep getting offered jobs, I already have deep roots and friends in the community, my many attempts to get jobs elsewhere have failed, and I have relatively cheap housing here.

If you live around a predominantly black area, you've failed your dependants. I drive 45 minutes to work to keep my kids in a school free from the black plague culcha of evil. I wish id had the same experience as a child but I went to school in Monroe where being white was a crime and meant you were getting assaulted regularly.
