I keep a pair of comfy flip flops for in house. I don’t care to walk around barefoot.

A few weeks ago, my daughter & SIL were looking around at various homes for sale north of Dallas. At the front door of one house, they were greeted by realtor and told that the homeowner required shoes to be removed before entering. My SIL said he told the realtor “Ok, we have seen enough” and he and daughter turned and walked away.
Your SIL sounds like a fricking dumbass.

Shoes off people are the same as the clean up your dog shite people. Soft and weak.

Nope. It's my home. If I want to wear shoes in my house, then I will.

Personally, I'm usually shoes off in my home as it helps keep the floors and carpets from getting dirty as fast. Guests are free to do whatever as long as their shoes aren't covered in crap. In the homes of others, I follow their lead.
It's not brain sciencestry.

We do, at least over the carpet.
When I worked on Maui, I had to give a home lecture to a ladies club meeting .
When I arrived at the house, the first thing I noticed was the big pile of shoes at the front door. I took the clue, shucked mine off and rang the door bell.
I was greeted by a group of locals who were barefoot as i was.

We don't make anybody take their shoes off, but it really is pretty gross when you think about all the shite that shoe has stepped on. People have walked into our babys nursery, which is carpeted, with their shoes on, and that will bother me because our baby crawls around on that carpet. And probably has licked the carpet at some point.
And it will definitely bug me when a kid sits on the couch and picks their knees up and the bottoms of their shoes are squarely on the couch that my face might be on later.

I never gave it a single thought until I had a Vietnamese friend whose family took their shoes off at the door, so all of us friends began doing the same. After that point, I started to think, "Yeah, shoes in the house is some nasty shite when you think about it."
That said, I still wear mine in my house. (I draw the line at my lawnmowing shoes tho).

Outside boots off. Inside slides or crocs on. I’m stepping in shite and mud all day, no need for that residual on my floors even if my boots look clean.

DGAF.
Remember as a kid going to a distant relative’s house and they were shoes off house. I was probably 12 or so and this was the first time I encountered this. I think remember their reason was not to damage their new floors. That never made sense to me. Floors are meant to be walked on. That is what it is their for
I know some request shoes off because of cleanliness. Personally I don’t care. We vaccum regularly and I am not worried about germs. Seems strange to request people bend down and take off their shoes. Guess you could offer them a chair

Nah, we wear shoes in the house. We don't have any carpet in the house. I've always felt odd in shoes off houses walking around in my socks or bare feet.

Shoes off here for sure. Notice same guys saying shoes on are the same guys with the disgusting dish washer habits

Off!
We were shoes on growing up but kids had to take off obviously dirty or wet shoes at the door. My mom was kinda strict about not trcking dirt.in the house if we'd been out playing. Dont know when things changed but distinctly remember thinking it was unusual we always had to take them off at a few friends' houses. It was always just the one's with Asian moms. Back then (80s-90s) everyone else I knew was shoes on indoors unless they were obviously dirty. Everyone wore shoes in houses even the ones where they had plastic on sofas.

We are a shoes off house like all the other homes in Germany. I see how nasty the water is in my Roborok. I can't imagine if we were trouncing around in our shoes.

Shoes off!. When we had carpet, then came the Grand Kids/toddlers. Didn't want my grandkids crawling on a dirty carpet.

Wr are not militant about it and dont ask guests to remove shoes. But we generally follow the above ourselves.
