Another day, another brand under fire for an ad that many customers saw as tone-deaf.
Shea Moisture is fighting backlash on social media after the brand, a family-owned business with deep ties to the black community, launched a spot that opened with a black woman discussing the difficulties of dealing with her natural hair, but quickly transitioned to two white women -- a blonde and a redhead. One said she didn't "know what to do" with her hair and the other complained about dyeing it.
The intended message was, "Break free from hair hate," but loyal consumers found the juxtaposition was insensitive.

"Insensitive" and "tone deaf" are two new words/phrases for racist that are new to me.

When you give in every time the whiners bitch, you empower them. The business world needs more cajones.

Yep. It's like caving in to the demands of a whining child. Next thing you know they are whining about everything....and that's where we are now.

I'm ready for a good solid common sense pushback on these idiots.

First of all...the light skin shorty is a smoke show. The blonde and red head are ugly.

Second of all, having used that product for my own curls, it's works.

Third of all, it's defttone As frick and just trivial the hair and perception issues many black women face. It's a shitty commercial to juxtapose black women beauty issues next to white women beauty issueS.

The white girls issues just sounded trivial as frick.

I don't think Shea really cares how serious the white people's hair issues are. They just want to sell more product.

So it is OK to exclude women that aren't of color? How inclusive of them.

It's great product. I know several white women/non black women that use their products.

Currently using their shampoo and conditioner too

Bitches about the commercial "trivializing" the hair issues black women face. Then goes on to trivialize the issues white girls face immediately after.

Not only are you a racist piece of shite, you're a hypocrite as well.

You're rather business illiterate. This is simply a company attempting to expand their appeal and marketing reach across to a second demo to increase sales/bottom line. It's rather funny to see the black man keeping the black man down in this sitch.

It's a small, much needed niche In a huge industry catered towards straighter, "finer" hair.

No I have no problem with them reaching out-- they should. Like I said I know many white qomen and non black women that use their products.

The commercial just trivialized the concerns and history Of its base

Don't piss your base and your most loyal supporters off. That company is nothinf without the spending power of black women

I know lots of black women. Their hair seems to be a sensitive area that I'm not bringing up in conversation.
