So someone endorsed a product they didn’t like? I’m sure he isnt the first. If you gave me a few million, I’d tell you this shite sandwich tastes great.

This was my first thought, but this is not a product. FTX is a security. Telling someone to buy a shoe, vs pumping a speculative investment is not the same.

His liability in this situation is minimal at best. Even if he did not think that cryptocurrency was a great investment, it will be impossible to prove that he had any knowledge of FTX’s situation. Which, I’m sure he didn’t.

In the end, it will be nothing more than a slight blackeye for endorsing a shitty product that turned out to be a criminal enterprise

Crypto is basically a pyramid scheme. What’s backing the crypto? Nothing of any value is backing up most of these crypto currencies. If you put large sums of money into crypto, you better get it out now.

I love Shaq, but if this is true he may be in some shite:

quote:
“He admitted that his friend Steph Curry called him, told him he could make millions of dollars, if he just served as a FTX Brand Ambassador and lied in a television commercial, that he was ‘all in’ with FTX, when he admitted that personally, he would not go near cryptocurrency,” Moskowitz claimed to Forbes?.

Really? You don't see a commercial and think "it's a commercial"? I don't look at Alan Thick selling reverse mortgages and think he's got a reverse mortgage, and even if he said he did, I would assume it was part of his payment for doing the commercial, not that he thought they were a great financial instrument to use.

If misleading statements were made in a commercial created by and for FTX, that's on FTX, not the people making the commercial. If a hemorrhoid cream doesn't work would you sue the actor in the commercial that said it brought instant relief? No, if you sued anybody you'd sue the company. But celebrity endorsers have money so the lawyers behind the class action lawsuit are trying to make the pot as big as possible.

I'm disappointed that no one has pointed out that he is at the right height to do so.

He has been doing commercials for the General, probably take a lot of takes to get the water ballon to land just right.

Yeah, bro, I only bought a Juul because of Stephen Dorff. I mean, have you seen Blade? Can't believe he would lie to us like that. I trusted him.

In their defense, isn't that what every celebrity endorsement is? Anyone really thinks Tiger Woods would drive a Buick over anything else? If someone is dumb enough to invest in something because a semi-literate NBA player recommended it, they deserve to lose their money.

I tend to agree but that Mercedes Peyton Manning was hawking with the 2 meatloaf ovens in the trunk did look pretty sweet.

Former Theranos board mamber David Boies, lol. Guy has no soul.

As our parents, grandparents used to tell us, 'If it sounds too good to be true, it usually is.'

IDK if the doctrine of caveat emptor (let the buyer beware)will be allowed but its gonna be interesting to see how this shakes out.

There are some heavy hitters in this yuge mess. Lots of wealthy, powerful people have lost big $$$ in this scam and they want the money back.

The Arnold Horshack looking clown who headed all this better have his head on a swivel, twenty Navy Seal guards on duty and have 5 food/drink tasters at his disposal.

I mean I guess in a way, but if the networks that aired the commercials aren’t held liable, it seems to me they got a big win. Somebody correct me if I’m wrong but my understanding is that one part of the scheme involved large investments in FTX by Ukraine from the billions that Congress was sending over, and in turn Bankman-Fried / FTX become the second largest donor in the nation to Democrat candidates in the midterms, which very likely directly resulted in a consequential number of the seats they won, and senate majority.

If it can be proven that the celeb didn’t know what they were promoting

How can they be liable if they didn’t know? Negligence? Good luck proving that.

and it caused financial harm to someone then -yes- they are liable

That’s an incredibly low standard.

So they are trying to file lawsuits against our beloved Shaq because he was paid to endorse a company that sucks?

that's the difference. FTX isn't pizza or printers. He may have got a little too greedy with his paid endorsement deals.
