I hate the new NWS radar setup. It took forever to load on my phone, kept freezing. Just junk. I downloaded RadarScope yesterday, $10 but worth it. And TWC app and KSLA weather app (both free) also have pretty good just straight radar (no velocity, precip totals, etc) and they have future track which I find helpful.

Does anyone have an answer to why it would be bad if the sun was out right now?

Sunshine creates more heat and instability for storms to tap into because it'll heat the surface, which will generate more lift in the atmosphere.

Adds heat which is fuel to the storms.

Why didn't the sun go to college?

It already had a million degrees.

Sorry, I will show myself out.

It’s going to be 81 with 84% humidity here when storms hit. 75 Dew point

It’s going to be ugly. Normally I get a little excited over severe weather cause I like storms but this one has me nervous. This is a dangerous situation

Why do you not want that?

Sun equals warmer temps and more unstable air. Just provides additional fuel for severe storms.

Because obviously when the sun is out the atmosphere is warmer in turn creates more instability.

The best thing one could hope for on a day like today is for the weather to remain really cloudy and rainy during the day leading up to a severe weather event. That can help to keep temperatures and instability down sometimes.

Daytime heating leads to higher instability. Clouds keep it cooler thus atmosphere is less primed to develop discrete supercells

I'm in southern Missouri today and we had the chance for some severe weather but its already raining and its relatively cool here today so it'll probably be a nothingburger here.

I'm glad for these types of threads though, I'm originally from Mississippi and traveled the South frequently for work so its good to be able to see which areas are affected and all from the numerous folks who post here.

Kind of a one stop shop.

RadarScope is my go-to for local dual pol data, but for just browsing around the region, MyRadar also has some surprisingly good information.
