Lots of college kids (my son included) returning back from Spring Break will be driving through this mess. Ugh

There is also pretty significant fire weather setting up for tomorrow. SPC also does fire weather outlooks, and this one is about as bad as it gets for the area.

I didnt think about them checking out Saturday morning and driving right through this if they're going from the gulf to Oxford or Tuscaloosa.
Not good at all.

Have they considered driving back Friday night? Sounds like most of this wont fire up until later in the day Saturday.
If they left Friday at 6pm or so they could be back in Oxford around 2AM.
I mean its out of the frying pan and into the fire, but at least they wouldn't be on the road driving through it.

Still trying to get a roof fixed in CenLa from that one…

They are college kids on Spring Break. The last thing on their minds is the weather and travel plans. Those concerns are for old people lol
I have sent him a concise weather warning text. Doubt it was or will be read.

Maybe they could see if they can stay one more night.

Damn that is an ominous tweet
like they said they don't say this to scare people but damn
Helmets for everyone, thats a good idea
Hard shoes for everyone, thats a good idea
Air horns for everyone, thats a good idea
What strikes me as odd is they say that Outdoor Sirens for tornadoes are not how you should rely on hearing about tornadoes. Damn that's all I've ever had or used. I've never had a NOAA radio, I don't even know what that is.

any chance this gets upgraded to a high risk?

Outdoor sirens are unreliable. For many people, they’re not going to hear them if they’re asleep or they are inside and have a bunch of other noise around them.
A NOAA weather radio is pretty straightforward. The National Weather Service has transmitters that broadcast weather content for that area, said content is provided by the local NWS office. When severe weather happens, they broadcast watches and warnings when they’re issued. When a watch or warning is issued, the weather radio will automatically turn on and sound an alert tone, followed by a computer voice reading the text of the watch or warning. The radio can be programmed by county, so that it only alerts for watches or warnings that are issued for the programmed counties. They are loud and, if programmed properly, they will get your attention regardless of whether you’re awake or asleep.

I expect there to be a high risk area defined for Saturday. The Storm Prediction Center may not actually introduce the high risk until late tomorrow night or early Saturday morning, but I think that they will eventually add one.

I've had my moment with a wildfire about 5 years ago - North Texas - once was enough. All we could do was shelter in place

Pretty likely. Unfortunately have to wait up until really close to the actual event to find out, but just about everybody is saying the best case scenario is still gonna be a really bad day. Had completely forgotten how close to the event they upgraded the 2011 morning outbreak, but when you see that high risk upgrade knowing it's right on your doorstep, it's definitely an 'oh shite' moment because you know what it means.

Sirens are good for a last measure but many times by the time they’re going off, you have little time to get to safety. It depends on how well the town watches the weather and how quick they turn them on. Plus, sirens can fail to work.
Weather radio picks up nationwide broadcasts from the NWS 24/7. You can get them at Walmart or Amazon for 40-50 bucks. Usually have back up battery, some even have a hand crank. You can get them with flashlights, compass, usb ports, etc built in. They will work in situations where all other communication forms are down

Maybe I’m wrong but I thought the April 27 outbreak had a high risk for a day or two

Good luck and God speed Bobby OG. Stay safe. I think this could turn out to be as big of a storyline as the severe weather/tornado threat

There's probably a good list of things out there, butI'd add for sure, is to make sure you have flashlights available, cell phones are fully charged.
I've heard people bring mattresses in to their safe rooms to hide under.
