How bad will it be in the Toledo Bend area?
Posted on 3/13/25 at 2:48 pm to LegendInMyMind
My wife (no pics) texted earlier and asked if the weather was supposed to be bad here (Columbus, GA) on Saturday evening. I replied, yes ma'am and why you asking? She said a girl in her insurance office was talking about leaving town because all the Ft Benning Army wives were posting on FB about leaving town
. I told her as long as my OT weather service thread, Radar Scope app and alerts work, we'd be ok. But yes babe, it seriously has that potential to be bad and everyone should be aware and monitor it closely.
Kinda surprised this thread hasn't been stickied yet.

Can one of the resident experts explain why the 3K NAM and HRRR show most of the heavy stuff in central and north Mississippi, but they keep revising the tornado threat southward in Louisiana?
I like looking at these models as a hobby, but this is one where I'm confused.. Weather Channel has reduced the rain chance in NOLA from 95%+ to under 70%, and I'm just curious where the severe predictions keep coming from for that area.

I still feel that moderate should be 3/5 and enhanced 4/5. Enhanced just sounds worse than moderate to me

Afternoon update from SPC. The moderate risk has been expanded further north.

Legend, since you’re a north AL guy, do you know who Fred Gossage is?
I do. I haven't chased down what he's saying this go-around. He rang the bell early back in 2011.

Yeah, he’s on that Talkweather message board that I read and occasionally post on. He’s not trying to scare anyone, obviously, but his posts there have been pretty ominous. Not 2011 ominous, but ominous.

We have a little hailer west of Russellville, AL.

My fear is there will be communities hit Friday night/Saturday morning and then take a even bigger shot Saturday afternoon without having shelter.

NEW: Update from SPC has another expansion of the Level 4/5 (moderate) risk for Saturday.
VERY strong wording in their discussion:
"Numerous significant tornadoes are possible on Saturday afternoon and evening, centered on eastern Louisiana, Mississippi, and Alabama. Widespread

The WWL meteorologist just seemed to think it won't be so bad in New Orleans proper because the prime ingredients will outrun the timing of the storms. Based on the HRRR, it looks like a messy line with some discrete action, but I'm anxious to see new data tomorrow with more accurate storm mode and timing.

I’m now in the moderate zone for Saturday
Barely, but I’m in it

I think you may be far enough west Delta that the worst will miss you. It's the Meridian, Laurel, Ellisville, Hattiesburg, Columbia, Bassfield, Sumrall, and Tylertown zone that I think will get the greatest punch. I'll be around Hattiesburg Saturday and may trek northeast to Meridian depending on what's going on.
