The suspect is pinned down in a barn near the Neuse River Greenway of east Raleigh. He is not yet in custody.

So East Raleigh (city limits) is pretty rough with shootings all the time. So my first thought was just another gang/neighborhood shooting.

But this was further out and in a more residential/suburb area.

Earlier in the week there were complaints about a sketchy guy in body armor with weird stuff written on his van camped out by a park. Cops talked to him for hours but no arrest. Don’t think it was same part of Raleigh but definitely an odd coincidence.

Here’s the link to the story from earlier in the week about some sketchy guy.

“Something is clearly wrong with this guy”

That’s actually pretty close to the shooting…alarming if this is the same guy

A system of connecting trails through a city. Not quite a park.

Certainly a popular NC thing. Charlotte has 52 miles of greenway with the desire to connect them all

I have run along one near Pineville.
I also ran on one in Greensboro that's on an old railroad track path

Yeah…constantly expanding them. They generally all run along urban creeks/streams, making use of land otherwise not fit for anything else. They are pretty nice. My ‘hood backs up to one and has an access trail. I’ve only ridden my bike down there once since we moved to this neighborhood, and of course I got approached by a weird thuggish dude asking for directions. My wife and kid aren’t allowed to go alone. It’s definitely a safety in numbers thing for me.

It's gotta be that guy right? He was spotted at two parks/trails in the area last week and then 3 people end up shot near another trail in the same area.

That parent on the call in your link will be sick if it turns out to be the man he called in.

That’s interesting. I have one about a 5 minute walk from my house. I walk on it basically everyday and have never had any incident, but I know incidents have occasionally occurred. The stretch by me is heavily used though. It’s rare I go more than 5 minutes without passing someone else.

It’s too coincidental for it not to be. Just reading that story earlier in the week gave me an eerie feeling, imagine how the people felt who actually saw the guy

Supposedly the shooter was young so if that's correct it's not the same guy.

Crime magnets. The research is clear, these "trails" are NOT something you want anywhere near your backyard.

Actually, the previous owners of our home, were plaintiffs in some kind of lawsuit to block access from the GW to this neighborhood. They didn’t win. Most people like it.
I honestly don’t think our neighborhood access to the GW is much of a risk for property crime. It would,be a long damn way to do any kind of breaking and entering and get away with more than you could carry a long distance. Easier just to drive into the neighborhood via car, steal and get away (which has happened) but not often. I definitely wouldn’t want to back up to one.

But there’s definitely a risk of running into a whacko on the greenway. That’s why I wouldn’t advise being alone. Especially to women and children.
