The weird thing to me is out of state students that come to LSU. You're parents are willing to pay out of state tuition and you pick Baton Rouge? Poor decision making skills there
A lot of people who can't get into Texas or Texas A&M go to LSU. LSU out of state tuition isn't much more that UT and A&M in state tuition.

My girl was in engineering school at tech. I transferred. Worked out for me! Ruston blows though.

LaTech - had a better and more respected engineering program and I had no desire to graduate and go work for a plant.

this thread topic is so dumb and degenerate and is the exact reason certain people leave LA

If it makes anybody feel better, I am from Texas and barely knew how to spell LSU.... I was accepted to UT.... Back when slightly above average students could get in..... But I still went to LSU. They did offer me money and I did move out if that state as soon as I graduated...... But I like the idea Of Louisiana.......jts a good place to say I lived once upon a time.

Born and raised an LSU fan. Offered a full paid athletic scholarship (covered everything Tops didn't pay) to Nicholls State. I'll take no student loans over student loans anyday

Went to ULM because it was cheaper, I had more scholarships, and I wanted to get out of BR for a few years and meet new people. I know monroe isn’t a great town but I’ve loved it up here.
I still love LSU and I root for them all the time

After many years of road trips to Oxford and Athens, I have become less and less enamored with those places. Baton Rouge is not a college town so any comparison is apples to oranges, but gameday wise, we have those places beat on many levels. The Grove is grossly overrated and full of bowtie wearing wannabes. Athens has too many hippies and homeless people.
I am incredibly biased, though.

Dad lived in LA. I lived with mom in Mobile. Didn’t go to LSU bc everyone from Mobile is expected to pledge DKE and those guys pissed on each other for fun.

Chose UL. Never really shopped around much because I was pleased with what UL had to offer in the program I was entering (Petroleum Engineering). Got a few letters from LSU but just knew the environment wasn't for me.
I was actually on LSU's campus last month for an SPE Student Sypmosium that was held in Patrick Taylor Hall. State of the art building, better than anything UL will probably ever have, but in no way do I think I would learn any better in that environment than I do now.
Looking back, I may have been a little more proactive in my college search, maybe even fielded a few offers from TAMU or such, but I still think I would have stayed in Lafayette.
Even though you didn't ask. I graduated 1st in my class of ~400. 4.75 GPA my sr. year because of AP and Dual Enrollment, (4.0 Overall), and also a 29 on ACT. So getting accepted wasn't an issue.

Out of state tuition is a motherfricker for some people.

And I'm not really talking to people who went out of state
"Going away to college" seemed like a necessary rite of passage when I was growing up. I never even considered going to college in my hometown, and I love LSU. I went to Miami, but I still would have picked another college in-state if it came to that. Keep in mind this was a high schooler's thought process.

Entirely economic decision. I started college the year before TOPS came out, so I went with the one that gave me the best scholarship. A year later they gave me TOPS on top of my other scholarships but I didn’t want to risk losing credits by transferring, at that point I just wanted to graduate and start earning real money.

Basketball scholarship to La College. It was NAIA at that time so there were schollys available. Free school led to me playing in the armpit of college basketball for 5 years, (redshirt one year with knee surgery), and ultimately getting a degree. Hindsight says it was a good move for me. I would likely have never survived the party opportunities that a school like LSU would have presented. I would've flunked out and would probably be living under the interstate to this day.

Mississippi State offered me a (completely) free ride for academics. LSU offered me about 1/3 of the cost.
This was in the pre-TOPS days.
Money talks.
