Because I'm a snobby New Orleanian of Uptown stock who considered Baton Rouge a cow town.

Didn't go to college. Went to work. Love LSU but don't consider myself to be anything more than a fan.

ULL pretends it’s as good as LSU out of sad denial. Tech doesn’t give a F—we’re just Tech and do our own thing with excessive pride out of spite because F everything not Tech. ULM is ULM. I forget everyone else exists.

Lots of factors in play:
Want to leave their hometown, and stay in LA.
Like the home-y feel of Lafayette.
Lafayette people very welcoming of non-Lafayette people, particularly welcoming of the similar fun-loving New Orleanians.
Lafayette has a central location and easy to travel to/visit. Not in BFE.
UL has several legit/accredited degree programs.
UL ranked as very high on "value" regarding cost vs quality of education.
Just a few reasons.

The weird thing to me is out of state students that come to LSU. You're parents are willing to pay out of state tuition and you pick Baton Rouge? Poor decision making skills there

Nah, I'm happy with my decision. And it was cheaper than in-state tuition in Illinois.

In the mid - late 90s, ULL was far and away better than LSU for computer science. For me the decision was pretty easy.

My own story:

Bucked a trend in the 80s when very few Shreveport kids were going to LSU. Most were going to Tech and NLU. Had some rough spots but stuck it out. Glad I did. Been in Nola 27 years.

My oldest son got a full ride to Alabama and graduated. Daughter is a senior at LSU. Younger son has just decided to attend LSU in the fall. I’m happy I guess. Could be worse. He will not break the bank or put either one of us in debt.

Except for the one outlier, we are a proud LSU family.

It’s funny how certain people don’t get it.

Oxford has better drugs and better looking women.

I have pretty strong ties to LSU as well. My grandfather went until he was drafted into WWII. My dad, mom, both sisters and me all are alums.

I would imagine the states best and brightest would go to institutions of higher learning than LSU such as Tulane or ULL

No, they go to Rice, Duke, Georgia Tech, Purdue, etc.

Oxfart is overrated as frick. Yeah, the square is cool, but the rest of the place sucks balls. Athens, GA is hands down the most awesome college town in the south. Baton Rouge gets a bad rap because it’s a city and not a quaint college town. Take out the culcha element and BR would be an exponentially better place to go to school and live in general.

Not even close. Athens fricking rocks.

ETA: Unless you include Chapel Hill and Charlottesville in the South. Then there is a debate.

Southeastern was way cheaper,
This. Plus it was like 45 minutes to/from Hammond campus from my home anytime of day. It was an hour or more--considerably more depending on traffic--to make the same drive to LSU. So, I was (1) cheap, (2) lazy, (3) not looking to move away from home. Or, in other words, I was the model candidate for Slow Learner's University. Even stayed on to get a Master's Degree there before going to LSU for law school. Good times.

I was too broad with my degree options and schools I applied to. I basically made a decision pretty late in the process.

Ended up out of college and working after barely a year. Oh well.

I didn’t go because my sister went before me and screwed off, and dropped out.

After they my parents weren’t big fans of me going to LSU, also had a long term girlfriend (wife now) and she wasn’t going either.

I went to Nicholls, got an Accounting Degree and finished school with ZERO debt.

Maybe I missed some of the “college” experience, but In the end I’m glad I went to nicholls.
