Some of them are actually quite beautiful and lifelike. Because they are hand painted, they are often one of a kind creations and can be custom ordered.
They are very useful to people like me who make doll clothes or baby clothes since they are often life size. ( I dont have any as my thing is more towards traditional historical dolls of which I only have 2 which were gifts.
They are also useful in movies, TV shows, commercials, pictures since there are laws about infants working on sets and great costs. They tend to even weigh just as infants do which also adds to their realism. (Unlike many "fake" babies on TV)
The grown women who would carry them and act like they are real are nuts, lol. As are the ones going bankrupt collecting them and hoarding associated with them - those are extremes.
