I think part of it is geography. It the main thoroughfare of drugs into and out of the city.

Despite my relatively negative view of Slidell, that analysis seems way overboard to the point that I'm not sure if you're being serious or sarcastic or trolling. Compared to nearby nicer places, Slidell is kinda sketchy but nowhere near as much as many other places that better fit description like Chalmette, St Bernard, Pearl River, Nola generally, etc.

There is lots of heroin anywhere in the US where people live. The elitists on this board will say its because Slidell is trashy, but truth is those same people have, or their kids have an oxycontin problem that will eventually lead to heroin. America.

So you're gonna fail to mention anything about all of the overdoses and rings taken down in West St. Tammany? Heroin is more of a problem in the Mandeville area than it is in Slidell.

Bingo. I used to go to a dr out there and she mentioned that she has to regularly drug test patients who have scripts for controlled substances. She said that Bc of the proximity of Miss and New Orleans, the drug activity has gotten especially bad.

I think it also has to do with the fact you can work in New Orleans while living not too far away and for alot less money.

It is not a town. It is a highway.

Yep, it is almost certain they have a friend, family member, or co-worker that is addicted to opiates in some form, they just don't know who it is because they still have a stereotype of what a drug addict should be.

I do not know the situation in Slidell, but I think there are a lot of places where there is a lot more heroin than the average person realizes.

But what is the biggest employer in Slidell? Are there a lot of physical labor jobs? Physical labor, a lot of injuries.. People get hooked on pain pills.. But I am sure there are several factors that contribute to it.

Yeah, the "elitist" are able to hide it better.

If you know a little about economics, the answer is that people in Slidell freaking love heroin.

It's funny... I see posts like this and feel like I need to jump to defend my hometown. I want to say that it's not nearly as bad as people make it out to be. I want to describe the Slidell that have fixated in my mind, but it doesn't exist anymore. Slidell in 2018 is very much a result of Hurricane Katrina.

I'm not going to sling mud on the internet, because any broad strokes that I tried to paint will not be fair to all. I will say that the people that moved here after Katrina are what make up Slidell today. That is true. I can't go to Walgreens to grab a gallon of milk without encountering somebody that is clearly an addict. And, more often than not, that person has a distinct accent that makes it abundantly clear where they're originally from.

It makes me want to raise my family elsewhere. And it's sad. It used to be an ideal place for that.

I lived in Slidell through Katrina, and this is correct. My old neighborhood is section 8.

All three of my foster children are from Slidell and both of the mothers were on either H or meth.

Because there is a demand for it.

All the people who couldn't quite make it back to the areas they'd been actively stagnating for a couple 3 generations got about as far as Slidell and stopped after Katrina. I'm talking about your non-beachfront Mississippi coast townies, Chalmation Nation expats, the worst representatives from the US-90 corridor, etc...

Wow, I really don't even know where to begin. I guess it starts with the caliber of people living in Slidell. Really just the dregs of society, the worst collective group of people I've ever come across in my nearly half century of living. I don't know if they were all born there or just attracted to the area. I really hope someone figures out how to fix Slidell. It's really a nice place if you just got rid of the people.

Pasco County, Florida would like a word with you.
