FIFY

It was a great small town prior to Katrina, but the storm changed everything.

Also, I propose you throw Picayune into the discussion along with Slidell for the same reasons. A friend was on the Picayune Police Narcotics squad when Katrina hit. He said before the storm they'd have 2-3 Felony drug busts a month. Then, almost over night, it went to 3-5 a week. 90% of the Drivers Licenses had addresses from Chalmette / NOLA East

How do you have an idea of how much heroin is there and how do you have an idea of its amount relative to other areas? Honest question. I have no idea how much heroin is anywhere.

I keep up with the news and like another poster said, you see obvious junkies everywhere in that city.

Wasn't terrible before Katrina. Lots of good families left and NEVER came back. Then NOLA East and Pearl River moved in and the rest is history

Yep.. Slidell basically became North Chalmette after Katrina

The trash from NO that moved in after the storm has infected a lot of neighborhoods like cancer.

The H problem is a lot worse than people realize.

1. Its a transient city that borders both NOLA and MS.

2. Slidell is exponentially trashier than most municipalities anyway.

Compared to the Desire Housing Project in NOLA, Slidell is nice.

and the cross roads of interstates 12, 10, 59 and by default 55... heck of an interchange if you think about it.

It's funny... I see posts like this and feel like I need to jump to defend my hometown. I want to say that it's not nearly as bad as people make it out to be. I want to describe the Slidell that have fixated in my mind, but it doesn't exist anymore. Slidell in 2018 is very much a result of Hurricane Katrina.

I'm not going to sling mud on the internet, because any broad strokes that I tried to paint will not be fair to all. I will say that the people that moved here after Katrina are what make up Slidell today. That is true. I can't go to Walgreens to grab a gallon of milk without encountering somebody that is clearly an addict. And, more often than not, that person has a distinct accent that makes it abundantly clear where they're originally from.

It makes me want to raise my family elsewhere. And it's sad. It used to be an ideal place for that.

Agree 100%. Growing up here in the 80s and 90s was great. Now it bums me out every time I go to my parents house just seeing how shitty my old neighborhood has become.

Threads like these always make me laugh as if Covington and Mandeville aren't heading towards being trash towns.

I'd also want to know what the OP, who is an eltist recent college grad (which is hilarious by the way) , is doing around any areas of the city that have heroin. I lived 25 years there, have most of my whole family still there and they all have nice houses, in nice areas and aren't drug addicts. I'm guessing the OP is hanging around kingspoint.

Also that Oyster Poboy poster has a really weird fixation on Slidell and calling everyone from there trashy is such an a-hole thing to do.

Your denial is cute.
Everyone knows Slidell is a heroin den. Deal with it.

You can’t reason with the OT on Slidell.. In their minds, mandeville is one of the best places on earth. Meanwhile, I’ve seen a decline since Katrina. But, people act like Slidell is Gary, Indiana. I grew up there and wouldn’t take it back for anything.
