Senior citizens living in assisted living in Maine have started to brew their own beer

I have spent a lot of time this past month in an assisted living facility.
The one we are at has a restaurant the residents use 3 times per day (not a cafeteria, they are waited on with a menu and daily specials). They also have daily speakers, movies, bingo, trivia, arts and crafts, full salon, pool room, bbq pits outside, and since it is in Vegas, of course a slot machine.
In the last month they have also had Mardi Gras and St. Patrick's parties. I think happy hour in the lobby is 3 times per week.

No, I am leaving tomorrow. And please for the love of God don't post some meaningless thing about Vegas or an event happening.
I am here spending way too much time in an assisted living facility because my mom is dying. I don't have the patience for whatever you were going to suggest.

This pairs nicely with the stories about old folks in nursing homes having the highest rate of STD infections.

Thanks, she's been in hospice care for about 6 weeks so its been expected, just waiting now.

Sorry to hear that. My mom has been in assisted living for going on three years and it's so depressing to go into that place to visit. Just gotta grin and bear it (not my mom, just the place).

That's hard. The place we have my mom in is amazing, she just was too sick to enjoy it once she got there.

It’s tough. My wife’s dad was in in-home hospice care until he passed away. It was incredibly difficult and hard on the family. On the one hand he wasn’t in a nursing home so we didn’t have to travel or drive to spend time with him but other than the nurses visits (which aren’t that frequent) his care was on the family which took its toll.
