Had a dude buy something and then blocked my driveway because he locked his keys in his car.

I had stuff to do so I told him he had an hour until he had to bust his window out.

I have a radius set for my searches. Been causally shopping for a 4x4 or AWD van for years. But when I’m not searching for something specific, the For You suggestions are all over the place.

Example: I have never actually searched for a hot tub. But whatever spying FB is doing makes it think I really want a hot tub from the SC coast (we live 230 miles from Charleston in the Upstate). I make the mistake of clicking on these for shits and giggles (I have no desire to buy a used hot tub and especially not one I have to haul across the state), so now they’re all over the For You page. Super.

My favorite is “I know what I have.”

Classic trash line.

And I don’t believe in inviting people to my house to buy 20 bucks worth of landfill fodder. The liability exposure is unacceptable.

I like how some posters are triggered by your observations

Only bad experience I've had is when I was giving away FOR FREE some floor tiles because I replaced mine. Dude showed up with a gun and I asked him wtf. He said you never know who you are going to meet

For reference: white dude, mid-50's and probably a kidnapping pedophile if I had to guess.

I sold my boat and my truck in the last month on Facebook marketplace. Sold very fast and had some very good reputable buyers. Very pleased with the outcomes. If you price it right it will sell. May have to weed through some responses but pretty easy to tell who is serious. Both buyers came from Hattiesburg, MS area and drove to BR with cash in hand.

Sold 2 cars on FB since COVID. Got some spam, and one shithead that didn't understand what "no haggle" means, but sold it 5 minutes later to someone who gets it.

hope you are making money but there is no amount of profit on any item I have and don’t want that would make having to deal with genpop in any way, especially having them come to my house, worth it

Had one attempt a 30 point turn in my driveway, which is straight as an arrow... lost a few flower pots that day.

My workplace had a large iron cattle loading ramp in our field. It was about 8 feet tall and 15 feet wide and heavy as a battleship. We wanted it gone so I posted pictures and said it was free. About 30 minutes later my mailbox was loaded with responses for this really obscure item. I had no idea something crazy like that would cause such a stir. I quickly found a guy that arrived with a huge trailer. He loaded that monster onto the trailer using his tractor. Then he strapped it down and drove off with it into the sunset. When I got back into my office I found that a woman sent me about 20 responses to my ad saying she wanted me to respond to her link she attached so she could send me some "pictures of herself." LOL. I removed the ad and that was my one and only experience with Marketplace.

If you need to buy baby stuff FB marketplace is a goldmine.

Target higher end neighborhoods and you can find like new items all day that people are trying to get rid of.

I've sold lot on marketplace, but man it comes with some headaches. For example, i had a car amplifier I was selling for $100. I finally sold it to the 39th person who messaged me about it. Most messages were "is it still available" or "$40 cash right now". Some high school kid showed up on time and i ended up selling it to him for $75 becuase I was tired of dealing with it and he was on time and did try to beat me down on price.

I do! But I’ve never searched for one on FB. Just texted with my friends and my dad re: advice. That’s one thing I’m not screwing with used. Local authorized service and warranty. Delivered. Not sure why it’s so focused on SC Lowcountry. Weird.

Buy and sell all the time on marketplace.

Learn to work the search function better and ask lots of questions or call/text….the less they engage, the less chance they’ll be legit

I don't think I've sold anything on marketplace since before COVID. The last couple of times I tried selling something, I'd get so many scam messages it wasn't worth the effort. Now I just burn every thing.

I've had almost all good experiences on FB marketplace. I've bought/sold a lot of tools and furniture. I've sold cell phones and other electronics. I bought my daughter a car from marketplace for $12k and sold a truck for $31k. I never did Craigslist so I can't comment on that but I used eBay a lot in the past and I quit using eBay because it became mostly scammers and the fees were high. But not FB marketplace. Sure I get a lot of "is this still available" messages but I haven't seen much scamming. And the ones I do see are obvious to spot. Just look at their other listings and their reviews.

I have never bought off of marketplace, but I’m always looking for guitars or guitar amps. But damn the Baton Rouge area kinda blows

Black guys are masters at jewing you down on price for vehicles. They finally get you to your lowest price where you say that’s it. No more reductions. They still ask if you can do better. Come on dude. I’ve already lowered it 3 times before I said that’s it. Doesn’t matter what you say or how much you reduce it from the original price, they will always ask for more. Even if they counter and you say OK, they will say “Well can you do it for $100 less?” Dude we just had a handshake agreement! Wtf!!

Pro-tip: Check out their FB profile before engaging. I’m not conducting business with people whose FB profile pic is flexing with a firearm, a wad of alleged $100 bills (you know what that’s called), and pants that don’t fit well. Just don’t feel comfortable. Yeah I’m just weird that way.

They need to quit hiding/buring posts after a few weeks. That bugs me the most if Im trying to sell something and makes me wonder how much Im missing if trying to buy something.

I have a brand new sump pump for half off, but most people dont need that so its not a rarely searched item. But no one sees it cause it constantly gets hidden after a few weeks evem if you search for a sump pump.

In general, my Facebook transactions have went well, until the last year or so.

- Had a "deal" with a guy on a vehicle a couple of states away, he was on vacation when we started messaging so we made plans to meet up when he got back. He was originally asking like $23k for a car and I offered $21k, he agreed and I got a cashier's check. Day before he got back, he backed out because of a higher offer.

- Was selling a guitar, a guy asked me to hold it for 4 days until he got paid. I normally don't do holds however he insisted up and down that he wouldn't back out and that he was buying the guitar as a gift for his son. And of course, he ended up backing out.

- Had a guitar up for trade and a guy gave me a bad review because I wouldn't accept his trade offer

- Have been looking for a truck lately, found one I liked and asked the guy if he'd take $1k less, he asked when I could come, I said tomorrow, then he ghosted me. I assumed he found someone to give his full asking price but it's still listed.
