Storage facilities are my gauge on the American economy. If I see a new one being built I know things are still good because we're the only country that buys shite, then buys more shite, then pays a third party to store the old shite we bought, so that we have room to buy more shite.

I thought everyone worked from home? If so, you can move to somewhere more affordable.

I wouldn’t know. I’m talking about raw data, not about me.

Fire hazard? They are mostly all metal and concrete block. We store the wifes car in one during he winter months to keep it indoors. 10' x 20' costs about $180 month. (She needs this large of one to keep from running into all the doors and walls).

The fire hazard is the car. Newer cars may not be a problem, but older cars with gas leaks can be.

They’re throwing them up everywhere and I keep wondering who is renting all of these storage units. I have a lot of shite…but when I have to start paying to keep it it’s time to take a trip to the dump.

My parents had one for 10 years that was $400/month. Ridiculous amount of money wasted.

People in every age bracket are burdened by this. Has nothing to do with the mini storage discussion as it relates to millennials.

Dumbass.

I've got a buddy that builds them ... buys the land, builds the units, has a management company come in and run them for him all over the Carolinas and Georgia. He got into it with his painting company about fifteen years ago and now he has something like 200+ locations, some of them climate controlled, all of them fence and camera secured, a few even have on premises managers .... he started with nothing.

He's got big investment firms offering him insane money for his company all the time. He still owns his painting company and all of his mobile home parks and he still lives in a modest 3000 sf home and drives a 2007 Chevy pickup.

One of the finest Paratroopers I ever served with.

My wife has a storage unit in Dallas that we've paid for probably 15 years. We've been in a cold war about it for a decade. It's like 250 bucks a month now

So you’ve spent $45000 on storing some stuff you haven’t needed for 15 years?

If you’d invested @ 7% annual return it would be worth ~$80k.

I could fill up a 16yard dumpster with completely useless shite at my house without blinking.

Thankfully my wife’s love for junk is trumped only by her hatred of spending money to store it.

Give you 250 for the lot

I've used one for my fishing gear when I lived in an apartment. Also housed my kayak at the time.

It’s not just Americans.

I was amazed to learn that in Hong Kong, tons of residents have storage for all their collectible shite. They live in tiny flats, but will go sit with their pop vinyl and plush toys in a storage unit.

I am just now learning storage units are like $200+ a month!

That’s CRAZY!
