So as a people manager...what FEELS like too much?
As a people manager, I’d be very careful about this word…especially since acting on my feelings would almost certainly put me at odds with policy.
But, if you’re asking me as a typical OT baw…one week or so outside of the average for a solid performer would probably be the limit of my tolerance.
But…again, my feelings mean f-all in this situation.

I have unlimited and take about 20 days a year. No big blocks, longest i usually take is 3 days in a given week, but I take 20 or so days a year.

Sounds like they should take as much vacation as they can while meeting obligations. Any manager that wants more from them can set the obligations and pay higher.
Your time is valuable baws. In the final analysis it’s the only thing you have, and you never get it back. Stop looking for ways to give it away to others for nothing.

Current position…3 weeks vacation, 13-14 holidays and 2 weeks health and wellness.

For some reason there’s a contingent of people on here that get offended by the notion simply doing one’s job to the level they are expected to.
Ironically it appears the higher the post count, the more likely it is that a poster takes offense someone being at peace with “meets expectations” in one facet of their life.

So why even require the employee to request vacation?
I just tell my boss what days I won't be in. I don't request it.

a lot of those posts feel like they're saying "I've already put in the work so I just do my 40 hours, but the younger/other people need to step it up"... maybe those people are content in their position, as you are with yours?

I think you're agreeing with what I said and don't realize it.
I wasn't arguing for unlimited untraced vacation and explained why I suspect we no longer have it. Like the comment below phrases it, we "outgrew" unlimited. Now that we aren't just like 5 employees, it was time to add some structure.
I personally am still on unlimited due to admin reasons, but I don't go on long trips abroad with regularity, so it's a nonissue. Doubt I take more than 4 weeks total.

My company just outgrew the phase where they didn’t track or cap PTO. Wish I had taken advantage of that more for a longer weekend here and there.
Everybody gets 3 weeks now.

This is a really subjective issue which means its hard to deploy except among people with easily measurable goals in small groups.
Sales people for one. Are you hitting profitability and total volume goals? Then I don't care what you do as long as you are available. IF you're at or near plan repeatedly, keep your phone nearby.
Same thing with senior management. Volume, profit, growth, no crazy lawsuits or recalls on product, keep on doing your thing.
I also work with a lot of blue collar guys that are traveling technicians and they have a lot of autonomy as to when they start, take breaks, etc... and which customer comes first. There is a group that keeps customers happy and I dont' want to bother them. They want Friday off to go fishing? Go for it! But some others require constant checkins and babysitting, so no fridays off there.

All of my employees have unlimited time off. They also get a trip incentive each year where if they hit goals they get to go on a trip of their choice all expenses paid.
What do you do and are you hiring

I was told only teachers get this much time off and yet you make 2/3 times what they make - LMAO

A lot of people here make covert contracts with coworkers, friends, and spouses and then lead miserable lives when those people don’t meet expectations they didn’t even know existed. It’s an easy trap to fall into because most of us inherit that toxic mentality from parents and grandparents who did the same thing (and who inherited it from their parents and grandparents and so on). Once you see that you’re engaging in covert contracts, it’s easy to avoid them, and you’ll instantly be much happier for it… but it’s really hard to see them until they’re pointed out.
If you (not YOU you JK, I know you know this

What self help book did you read?
Why can't this be called unspoken expectations?

I believe Robert Glover coined it in No More Mr. Nice Guy, but the term is all over the Internet and has been for years.

We’re talking about the same thing.

Where tf are these companies offering paid paternity leave and unlimited PTO/WFH?
I need to apply cause 5 paid holidays and 10 vacation days a year is bullshite.

I own a small business, ten employees total. I decided when I started I would make my office a place people want to work. I have an unlimited PTO policy because we are a sales driven organization, and as long as they are hitting goals they can take as much time as they want.
