Depending on your build, this could be fatal. I had the same thing happen to me(but not in front of 100s of people and anyone filming) on a hard packed dirt road when my shorts that were just a bit too long and had too much pockets caught on my knee and I couldn't complete a flip.Mind you, I've done 1000s of backflips prior to that, I had immaculate technique landing them standing straight up in the same spot. Well, that one time I landed on my forehead, neck cracked all types of ways but didn't break. I I didn't get KO'd, popped back up, but it felt like someone hit me in the head with a 2x4. got a hematoma the size of a golfball by the time I was up on my feet which later migrated to my nose and gave me two shiners later in the week. Was having massive pain even laying down for 2 days and was sore for a good week. Stopped doing flips on hard ground since, only on the beach or into a pool.
He might have been able to do a flip, but the robe and clothing/footwear can frick up your momentum and height needed. He tried to bail, and landed on his neck.
