The government still paying people to stay home?

Pretty much. Many of us in Houma are trying to get work release inmates as we can

It isn't just restaurants. I was in Lowe's yesterday and at every register they had a sign that read, "We will interview you today." People are getting paid more to stay home than to work, and that's a crying damn shame.

Went to the chimes in BR today by campus. They were so short staffed from waiter, to the bar and kitchen staff it was miserable

My new gig in MT is really hurting for folks. I haven't bartended in about 3 years, and have never done any kind of event coordination in my life, but they still hired me from two zoom calls. I'm getting $24 an hour, tips, private employee housing, and lift privileges all for slinging drinks and making sure somebody's baw retreat goes as planned.

"What? me get off my phone and help you?"
I remember when they guy at the hardware store had worked there 20 years, not 20 days...

For front of the house staff?

This is a back door way to raise the minimum wage. You’ll have to pay low skill employees more because government has shrunk the labor pool.

And offset by allowing illegal labor to proliferate.

This is going on all over the place, and yes, it’s exactly as you say, trouble with getting people to apply and because they’re paying them to stay home. It’s worse in blue areas than red though.
It’s as if they actually want to destroy what’s left of this economy quite deliberately. Mass price increases, businesses closing doors, and the left plays their fiddle as if mommy will be by any minute to come bail them out.

I have a franchise operation. The only people you can hire right now are high school kids who just want to work and have a job. It is always almost impossible to hire a competent adult in the food service industry but right now it is absolutely impossible.

Two choices - wait tables or sit home and collect a stimulus check.

I think min wage is $16.50 or so here and I haven’t noticed any restaurant troubles like I read on this site. My neighborhood grocery starts the high school bag boys at $20/hr and haven’t had any trouble keeping applicants willing to work.

Every place is littered with now hiring signs and grossly understaffed. It’s hard to even go to restaurants because they don’t have enough staff to operate properly. I feel bad for the people who are working because their jobs have become unnecessarily stressful. And you still have people asking for money on the street.

Minimum wage at 40 hours $290 vs. $547 a week max unemployment in Louisiana is your answer.

I know margins are slim and all in the food industry and the Taco Bell down the street from me pays dishwashers starting at $20/hr but they have the same dollar menu and prices I find back home in Louisiana
How’s that work?

Lol, it isn't that bad. Talking to other owners and managers in the area it seems like I am in better shape. I have a good core group of girls that know that they make good money and get tuition assistance. I'm just trying to hold on to the less experienced girls to give the experienced time off. It is tough and they really are taking it on the chin
