Well if she didn't like them before, she certainly doesn't like them now.

Racist or not, she's out the years in. She earned that retirement. Using a word used every day by others gives ZERO right to go after someone's earned and saved money.

frick anyone who would do that because if the shoe was on the other foot I'd be equally livid. LOTS of teachers racist against whites, and I don't think they should lose money

I wouldn’t expect her retirement to be in play unless there is already a mechanism and policy in place for retirement to be forfeited upon termination. The social media mob doesn’t really have standing or authority to withhold earned benefits.

because we don't let it bother us. Not because it's not used in a hateful fashion. It just doesn't work, like all the rest.

You must CHOOSE to TAKE offense at something. The word HAS NO POWER OUTSIDE OF WHAT YOU GIVE IT.

It has no real power to hurt. No real power to make people act violent. It is an excuse. It's a jumble of common sounds that that people pretend to be offended by. Nothing more.

I get what you're saying, and I agree, but only to a certain extent. As a pushback, I would say that everyone are offended by words at some point. Some just have a higher threshold than others.

For example, I suspect I could call you ugly or fat, and it wouldn't have an effect. That doesn't affect me either, I was called that almost everyday in grade school, I became immune to that along time ago. On the other hand, if someone were to make a disparaging remark about your wife, or maybe a deceased relative, you would likely be upset. If someone said a disparaging remark about your kids, you would probably be tempted to want to retaliate physically.

The difference? They are still words. Words do have power, you do have the power to dictate how much power they have. But words do have power, imo.

Reminds me of that Apple commercial I've been seeing with the guy staring at the lizard, that he thinks is dead, on the table. Bet she wishes she had that "unsend" feature.

Also, what a fricking name: Nelwyn.

I agree that it's trashy. Just like the people that call MLK day James Earl Ray day but until the group of people that pretend to be offended over the word stop using it so nonchalantly then I'll continue not to take their complaint about the word seriously.

i agree, i dont get offended by it, just personalyl dont say it. i also think all the being offended over a word makes you a child and it is simply faux outrage for attention most of the time.

The problem is that society and its legal infrastructure should not give credence to that offense, and unfortunately we're moving in that direction.

To be clear, I'm not commenting on the legality of things here. I do not think any words should be illegal to say. The government has no business mandating that.

Yeah I think the OP using a screenshot from a News Source probably led to many (myself included) in concluding this was from a news source and not Facebook.

It is funny though that breaking the law is not a fireable offense in her case, but it appears use of a racial slur is a fireable offense. DWI- "I hope she gets some help". Hard r- "She doesn't need to be around other people and should lose her occupation and be ostracized".

Well to be honest, we see black people in positions of power saying equally stupid, racist things all the time but they somehow don't get the same "LET'S DESTROY THEM" response from everyone.....
