It'll be more than baws from Lafayette if crime rates skyrocket. How many people you see visiting Detroit and El Paso?
El Paso?
It has one of the lowest crime rates of any city its size in the United States. El Paso has a lot of problems, but high crime isn't one of them.
People don't visit there because it's an isolated dump in the middle of the desert that doesn't have much going for it other than a large military base and, in years past, a large border town across the river which used to have lots of bars and "entertainment" opportunities, but which no one in their right mind would venture into nowadays.
In fact, law enforcement seems to believe that all the crime in Juarez tends to help keep violent crime in El Paso down since most just take their criminal acts over there where they don't have to worry about getting busted. El Paso is sort of a neutral ground for the cartels and their gang enforcers.
El Paso Ranks as 5th Safest Large U.S. City

I don't think it will be "struggling" like when people think of Detroit, but there certainly will be a downward trend as people and businesses move out of the city to the surrounding communities.

If there is excessive waste, why not?
There is excessive waste in every single tax payer funded organization in this country. That is a cans of worms I’d love to dive into, but not a valid rebuttal man.
Did you see the salaries for the top paid Texas SuperIntendents? +400k/year? That’s a frick ton of excess

No, but the proposed high taxes on certain companies (Amazon tax) are still out there and could always come back when these idiots need money.

I guess we will see how much areas like Redmond and Bellevue continue to grow
I know when me and my wife were planning on moving to the area, Redmond was our #1 spot

They're incentivized to migrate there by these massive welfare programs
That’s the catch 22 I spoke about.
Other cities get to ship out their homeless people and say “hey we don’t have that problem” and it’s kinda bullshite.
I can assure you that the overwhelming majority of people, left and right, do not wish to allow homeless in the street. The majority opinion is “we all agree we don’t want them there, but what is the solution?”

It also has to do with the fact most of the higher ups in the gangs/cartels send their children to El Paso for schooling and go shopping there on the weekends. El Paso is "off limits" when it comes to the major violence for that reason.
I lived on the west side for a couple years and every weekend the big name stores were packed with nice cars with Chihuahua license plates.

Ok. That still doesn't change the fact that the city of Seattle has been a top 10 city (top 5 most years) in growth for the last decade.

out of curiosity and slightly off topic: what about Minneapolis?

I'm not nearly as familiar with Minny as I am Seattle
I don't know what businesses are there or the growth over the last decade

quote:From everything I've read/heard on the matter, the military equipment consists of hand-me-downs from the actual military.
Most of these large cities have military equipment in the name of the war on drugs. That’s a lot of money that could be freed up for more relevant usages.

Quote of relevance:

Created as part of 1997’s National Defense Authorization Act, the 1033 program allows the Department of Defense to get rid of excess equipment by passing it off to local authorities, who only have to pay for the cost of shipping.
There were also replies to the defund movement from some police chiefs that can be summarized as follows on the matter: Salary for officers make up the overwhelming (85%+) of of their budget. Budget slashing is just going to reduce officer numbers, not really do anything positive (in this particular regard, anyway)

And you think this will never end?
At one time New Orleans was a premier city, bad politics is killing it.

Pleaseeeeee make it a reality
Then we can have Live Seattle
Then we can have Live Seattle

I’d love to trim fat everywhere, but I know I’m in an “ideal world” mindset in this thread.
We don’t know if these new ideas will work, but I think most can see that what we have isn’t really working great. Something has to change and if proposals are made that the population likes and votes for, I will wholeheartedly hope that it works.

That’s because face value to you was reading the misleading thread title.

LOL at the first time a social worker is called to respond to a burglary in progress or shooting call.
I'm sure rental property owners are ecstatic that the council wants to put homeless people with addiction issues in any vacant rentals they might have.
