Sears is looking at selling off Kenmore. I think they sold Craftsman a few years ago.
I saw craftsman in Lowe’s for the first time a few weeks ago. Was a pleasant surprise

The execs did see it. The current CEO Eddie Lampert set it up to where he would make more money off the real estate than keeping the stores open.

I'm not sure it is of the same "quality" that Craftsman was once well-known for.

Where will I buy Craftman’s tools?

My parents & grandparents talk about wiping their asses with the ‘Sears & Roebuck’ catalog.

Saw them at Lowe's yesterday.

Lake Washington seems like it has some interesting places. I drive past there frequently but have never stopped.

My grandparents were very loyal Sears people. But like a lot of very loyal Sears people, they're dead now. Sears didn't adapt with technology to attract young people. Survival of the fittest.

Sears has been going downhill for years. Hooking up with K-Mart didn't help them one bit.
The store on Veterans Blvd. in Metairie is like a ghost town. I swear, you could shoot of several rounds of birdshot in that place and not hit a soul.
I don't know how much longer that one can stay in business and it wouldn't surprise me to see it on the list of closures.

It was very obvious that's what Lampert was going for.
But eventually Warren sold / shut down all the mills. By the time Lampert does that, there won't be any cash left.

Few weeks ago, I was looking for some new grilling tools. Looked around and what I wanted, at the best price, was actually at Sears, and there was an additional 30% if you ordered it online for store pickup.
I did so. I have not shopped at Sears in years.
About an hour later, got an e-mail with a bar code, instructions on where exactly to park, where to enter the store. Did as told. Walked into an old hallway where there was a kiosk with a sign saying to scan your bar code. I did so, and about 90 seconds later, out comes a man with my order.
It was a very, very easy experience and I never stepped foot on the sales floor.
But it's probably too little, too late.
Now Kmart? I have no concept how they are still operational, at all. Every time I go there, which is rare, I want to shoot myself. It is 100 times worse than WalMarks could ever be.

* Maybe.
God I hope so. Not because I'm some big Trader Joe's fan or anything, but because I know they will make it a much better development than what the previous K Mart craphole was.

Did similar a few years back on a tv, and also a saw... I can’t imagine saying “let’s go to sears” but will check them online for the right types of purchases

I don’t think K-Mart has changed much in about 20 years.
The only thing keeping them around in some places is a relative lack of competition and that still didn’t save them in towns like Gonzales and Natchez.
Their merchandise is generally lesser quality than Wal-Mart, their stocking and organization sucks, and they feel like they’re stuck in a time warp back to the late 80s because they can’t or won’t spend any money to update their stores.

Seems strange to me because the catalog was a precursor to online shopping. I think getting rid of the catalog was the start of their downfall. I can see how they could have ramped that up to be a big online retailer like Amazon. They had a lot of the pieces in place at one time.
