Years ago in a biochem class this subject came up. Basically 1st's are a no go. 2nd's were marginal, and still not legal in some states. 3rd's and above were not deemed excessive risks. I have 2 cousins that married, and share the same Great Great Grandfather( 4th's I think). 6 kids, all healthy and emotionally stable.

Was very common in the old world and still so in some parts.

The people who need to know the findings of this study won’t be able to read it.

It happens way more than anyone wants to admit. We all laugh at Alabama, but if you weren't horribly inbred, you could not mathematically exist.
You see, every generation doubles the number of ancestors required to get to you. There's you then your two parents, four grandparents, 8 great-grandparents and so on. So, the number of ancestors you have at each generation before you is 2 to the Nth power, where N is the number of generations back.
Estimates of the total number of humans that have ever existed are between 100 and 150 billion. Let's say 150 billion. 150 billion is between 2^37 and 2^38, so if you had zero inbreeding, somewhere around 38 generations back, you'd run out of possible ancestors. Let's say that a single generation spans a VERY generous amount of time, like 50 years. That puts us at 1900 years ago. That's as far back as you can possibly go without inbreeding and that's if you use every human that has ever lived as an ancestor. Unfortunately for you, the Pyramids at Giza were already about 2500 years old at that point. So, you see, it's impossible for you to exist if you aren't as horribly fricking inbred as the rest of us.
Oh, we can still laugh at Alabama, though. They won't understand all that math.
ETA: Also, the pyramids are fricking ANCIENT. Cleopatra and Marc Antony are closer in time to the Luxor in Las Vegas than they are to the Pyramids at Giza.

Everybody's got that hot cousin
When I first got to Dallas my 3 attractive cousins I hadn't seen since childhood were among the first women I met.
They were sisters, saw them once, then went to one of their weddings, now gone another 25 years or so without seeing them.

They don’t have anything on the royal family of ancient Egypt. You had brothers marrying sisters and I think even their own moms. They took the whole idea of a “pure” bloodline to the extreme. The most famous Pharaoh, Tutankhamun was the product of generations of extremely close familial incest. His mother was his father’s sister. And his own wife was his sister. He looked like this...

4th, 5th cousins and beyond are allowed. Siblings, 1st, 2nd, or 3rd cousins are a NO! Stay away and keep proper boundaries.

Ah, right. Damn. Haha. Was Alexander the kid or did I just pull that out of thin air?

Great balls of fire, the only person I ever heard of that married their cousin was from Louisiana.
