The patient is 55y old, not 80y. No major underlying health issues. Rapid progression to ARDS.
Please take #COVID19 very seriously. Don’t crowd into Red Robin this weekend & then carry the bug home to family.

On a call with ER/ID docs from Seattle & NY who are treating #COVID19 patients. One worrisome feature they saw - myocarditis. 45yo who died had EF go down to 10%. Other risk factors for complications in younger patients - significant obesity & diabetes.

Of 32 patients hospitalized in one Seattle hospital with #COVID19, 4 needed ICU care (again that 10% number for ICU admissions). The age of their youngest hospitalized patient - 22 years.

In Seattle doc’s experience only 2% of patients with #COVID19 have co-infection with influenza.

Sure there are a few young people getting really sick

We’ve had 2-3 healthy young people die of flu in our hospital this year

But stats arent backing this up as a common thing

THE PLURAL OF ANECDOTE IS NOT DATA

If you are curious about your age risk, DO NOT focus on random, tragic isolated cases of otherwise healthy young and middle aged folks dying.

The data has a whole is far more relevant than an individual tragic case.

There was no underlying issue in any of the patients?

Not that I know of. Some people just get the flu and for whatever reason go into ARDS/bad superimposed bacterial pneumonia and die. It happens. Life is fragile. We need to stop pretending it isnt.

I have been posting this for days. I don't care who he is, posting that as if it's the norm is irresponsible.

You're not going to convince the TD infectious disease experts it's anything more than the flu.

Except the ones who think it's a Chinese/Democrat/Globalist plot to take down Trump and impurify our precious bodily fluids.

Its all about scaring people

While these cases are absolutely tragic and horrifying, that doesn't make it the norm. Using isolated data points is not a good way to present this.

Really horrific things happen in all aspects of medicine for common conditions, it doesn't make it the norm.

Happens to us with healthy pts every year.

Had a 2 year old with myocarditis die this year.

The issue with this is that all of you are finally seeing what actually happens in medicine now.

None of this is new.

It is just new for y’all.

Medicine isn’t like Scrubs, House, ER, or Gray’s Anatomy.

People die.

MrLSU you are so full of shite, it is truly unbelievable. I really hope that you are getting enjoyment out of your fear mongering. Mental illness is prevalent. Whatever helps you, you go for it.

Really mouthbreather? This is what your tiny, poorly educated brain came up with? Laughable.

Why would there be any respiratory infection patients in a cancer center?

Here’s what this clown said when this crisis began. Stop believing him. Perhaps he should take a picture of his test results so that we can see what they look like!
quote:

Again tell me why everyone is freaking out about this crap again? Unless you are in a nursing home and either have one or a combo of the following: cardiovascular disease, diabetes, chronic respiratory disease, hypertension, and/or cancer this is nothing more than a manufactured crisis. I think some of you are just hungry for a death plague just for the excitement or for political purposes. 80+ years old DEATH RATE confirmed cases 21.9% DEATH RATE all cases 14.8% 70-79 years old 8.0% 60-69 years old 3.6% 50-59 years old 1.3% 40-49 years old 0.4% 30-39 years old 0.2% 20-29 years old 0.2% 10-19 years old 0.2% 0-9 years old no fatalities WHO/CCDC I'm flying out today so excuse me if I risk the .4% death rate if I catch this thing. Quarantine the old folks homes and the death rate will plummet.

And here he is telling us all that he is being tested. He/she is a fraud.

It's amazing how much different (and many times, contradicting) crap we are hearing during this. You have a medical official in Ohio who decides to broadcast her "guesstimate" that there are 100,000+ cases in Ohio. You have real numbers that say that roughly half of the deaths in the U.S. so far have been in that Washington nursing home. Then you get a doctor like this saying it doesn't matter if you are non-elderly with no underlying health conditions, you're still doomed if you get it. Who knows what the hell to believe at this point? Maybe this thing will be gone in a month, maybe it'll kill us all, no one can give any sort of solid answer.

I'm ready for this crap to be over. Tired of worrying about it. Tired of hearing about it. Completely over it.
