This. In retrospect, we should have allowed the schools to remain open and only immune compromised kids should have participated in distance learning. Allowing this thing to burn through the younger population would have us much closer to herd immunity.
I'm not sure what the answer is, but we have a teenager and an almost teenager at home, and they need to be around their people. Maybe I'm being selfish, but there's no end in sight to this illness. We can't just hide in our homes indefinitely. Totally ridiculous.

Wouldn’t it be really fricked up if this virus bullshite all of a sudden gets mysteriously and quickly under control after the election in November?

Nope, open as soon as possible and get as many days in as we can before our stupid politicians and state residents freak out and try to make us shut down. I don’t trust anyone in the state of Louisiana to stick to a schedule of any kind, let alone a condensed school calendar with a “pandemic” lurking around.

Got quite a few down votes when I started this thread June 27.
Football already being reduced and cut back to October 1st.
There is no way schools will open full blast while in phase two.
Just need a little bit more time.
Nothing wrong with a later start date.
Don’t want to start too soon and have to stop...
Distance learning does not work!

I’m convinced the whole strategy is just make everyone miserable with restrictions, riots, etc. until November just so moderates will vote for anyone but trump just for a change.
What I don’t understand is why that strategy seems to be working with a GOP senate and White House. The vocal minority is winning the culture wars right now.

You don’t believe that showing a significant increase in cases allows the government to continue and extend restrictions?

Well, let’s just say the economic consequences aren’t good. I feel pretty sure that you already know that, though.

I’m good. Thanks for asking.

Bottom line: children are at no more risk from Covid-19 than they are from any normal strain of flu.
Much less actually but your sanity is refreshing
Any 20 something person running around today in mask is basically committing themselves to a lifetime of wearing a mask.
Flu is a much more serious risk to anyone <60.
Kung flu is a joke of a virus. Yes 130k have died in our country of 330 million over 6 months.
In the same span 1.3 million Americans have died of something else.
But no one understands math anymore so I shouldn't be surprised at the ignorance.
The numbers mean nothing without context.
If there were a very deadly virus moving through the population you wouldn't need someone to tell you. You'd see it for yourself.

Schools should open October 1st

Exactly. Why even go to school anymore? It is too dangerous for the children. The government can teach us the right things and take care of us.
We don’t need schools! It is too dangerous!

They can’t. Teachers work under contract.
It’s past time for kids to return to normalcy, structure. Life is short and should be enjoyed. This shutdown is taking an unnecessary toll on so many of us-emotionally, socially, financially, spiritually. Enough is enough.

It does exist, but 99.9% will survive this flu- many with little to no effects.
The national shutdown and limitations is a huge overreaction and much more harmful.
Tell granny to stay the frick home.

At this point why even go back to school. The government can take care of us. We don’t need to learn math, history, reading, and science, the government can do that for us.
History for sure
