In 1974 as a junior at Ville Platte High School had an Ag. class that let us use welding helmets/shields to watch the solar eclipse. People making way too much of the danger if proper eyewear is used.

They are doing the same thing here in Tangipahoa Parish. They are also giving the kids a free absence if they want to stay home.

It is crazy, it is just a damn eclipse they have been happening since the beginning of time. These must be the same people who when the last eclipse occurred was telling ppl the keep there pets inside so they wouldn't stare at the sun and get blinded.

If it’s cloudy in Louisiana that day you literally won’t even know the difference

Dammit, now I’m going to spend the rest of my life pronouncing Corneas as Corn Ears.

I couldn’t figure out how to spell it phonetically the way I was hearing it in my head. But you can probably guess.

We live in the path of totality so our schools are closed Monday. Everything in Little Rock is closed and the grocery stores and gas stations have been madhouses this week.

They expect more people to visit Little Rock for this than ever before, and Little Rock is not a town that is used to having this many people descend upon it for…anything.

I have a vague memory from 1000 years ago of Holy Name taking us outside. We all had the cheap periscopes to view the eclipse. Somehow nobody went blind.

Our school is handing out viewing glasses.

Our school did that too, as have a couple of companies I have worked for. One year, we made a contraption with which to view it.

The pussification of the world continues.

Teachers and schools should be encouraging students to learn about the eclipse. When I was in 5th or 6th grade, the teachers had us punch a small whole in a piece of cardboard and showed us how to view the eclipse on the ground, with our backs to the sun.

Here is the message we got.

quote:

The partial solar eclipse that will occur next month is a great learning opportunity. With that in mind, Monday, April 8, will be a half-day for students.

In the coming weeks, we will send home educational materials and solar glasses, to allow students to safely observe the event with their families.

It happens after school here anyways, but there isn't any reason to send them home at 11:15 and ruin aftercare for those of us parents that use it.
