Might finally get some common sense and implement year round school with shorter breaks since we are no longer an agriculture society.

I'm a history teacher in Pennsylvania, and the state screwed this up about as bad as possible yesterday. The DOE had a webinar at 9 AM and basically told the schools that it was up to the individual districts about whether or not to cancel. They also said that if you were out at state testing time you had to get a waiver and reschedule accordingly. Fast forward to 3 PM as schools were dismissing and they canceled for two weeks. Now I know things are changing quickly, but if they had made the call at 9 AM, that gives all day to get things in order for off campus instruction starting Monday. Obviously we never got that chance and now we're just going to be sitting on the sideline for two weeks. A lot of schools will no problem switching to online instruction, however in our county most kids are coming from rural areas and have spotty at best internet, and some kids have none at all. That is why those six hours were so crucial for schools like ours. They waived the 180 day requirement for kids, so it will be interesting to see how many days are actually made up.

I've been working since 8am this beautiful Saturday trying to create and implement online lessons for my students. We will also be required to hold virtual classes during the week. Now, I'm not claiming to be entirely sober while doing so, but I'm hardly on vacation. Being able to go to the bathroom whenever I want and having more than 25 minutes for lunch does make it seem like it though.

Can’t wait to hear all the parents who now have to work from home and spend 24/7 with their kids have a little more respect and appreciation for teachers and caregivers.

Why do people on here hate teachers do much? Most people don't spend quality time with their own kids so why hate on teachers for doing it.

In Mississippi, the day limit can be waived due to the governor declaring a state of emergency but that is up to MDE. The real question is what will they do about state testing.

People shite on teachers here but they have some of the hardest jobs in America. They are overworked and underpaid and they have to deal with little shitheads that don’t want to be at school every day.

They work 7 months out the year get off early and retire early. Their job isn’t hard. Quit acting like it is.
