In Bossier Parish the Teachers are reporting for work at 8am Tuesday. They don’t know what they are going to do yet, but leadership is meeting Monday so I’m sure they’ll have a plan to implement online/remote lessons.

My wife also has to go in at 8am Monday. She's not in Bossier, but was told they had to come up with a certain number of lessons the kids could work on while off. Online lessons are not a legitimate option in many La schools bc not all kids have internet access at home

Please step in a classroom for a day.. then come tell me how “easy” it is! I’ll even plan the lessons for you. Oh wait, I would have to do that on my weekends like I always do....

In Mississippi, the day limit can be waived due to the governor declaring a state of emergency but that is up to MDE. The real question is what will they do about state testing.
I think , if it is an extended period of time, they will make concessions on state accountability models and let districts “stand” on last years scores maybe. Not sure but have heard talk of it or changing scores or If it’s only a week like my district currently , may need no changes

Oh man you have to work a couple hours on the weekend. The 4 months you off will make you feel better though. Enjoy an early and easy retirement

Would you want to teach the youth of today? It takes special people to put up with that...

Cant wait to hear all the stories of vacations and relaxation therapies all the teacher will get with a 5 week paid vacation. Then off for 10 weeks 4 weeks later!!!!!!
As a school teacher who has spend his entire spring break (9 days we aren’t paid for) on the phone with my admin, parents, and online curriculum companies to plan for remote teaching for the rest of the semester I just want to say... frick YOU.
Also... I don’t get paid for the summer as my contract is for 186 days and has a clause saying I can’t get another job even during my “time off” or else I could be subject to termination. So again... frick YOU
That is all.

Why would you sign such a bad contract? Were you desperate?
What perks were you given for those concessions?

So much ignorance right here. My wife is a teacher and I’m glad I don’t have to through shite that she goes through.

I invite you to come substitute my 75 minute class of 30 eleven year olds, many with behavioral disorders, autism, etc. Then there’s 5 who didn’t sleep last night. 4 that are defiant. 2 are sick and 2 don’t speak English. Come teach them a lesson and be sure to prove they mastered it. Then do it 3 more times with meetings during your off time and eat lunch on the run. Bathroom? Lucky if you get to go once a day.
I love my job. Just tired of the teacher bashing. Subs leave me notes that they don’t know how I do it.

Louisiana isn't making them up, can confirm.
But trust me, this is about to start affecting way more than schools. Get ready
I have a feeling the school year is essentially over

That is ridiculous! Must be a "right to work" state?

Teachers didn't cancel school. In fact every teacher I talked to is disappointed that school had to be cancelled - and for the length of it.
Don't be jealous.
