Welcome to the education industry. Most people if they actually read their contracts would be surprised what they put in them. I know many that still get 2nd part time gigs but know if they piss off the wrong admin then it could be us3d against them. Also know that not all states have teacher unions so they can do whatever the hell they want. A lot of districts have “non-competing” contracts so that way you can’t/won’t leave. Working on my masters in a different field to get the hell out.

I'm on year 21. I'm too young to retire at 25 years, so I have to do 30. I'll be 53 when I retire with 30 years credit.

Again... welcome to non-negotiable cookie cutter “fair” contracts. Thus another reason people are leaving education in droves. When you are paid for 186 days of work in a contract, that is not the same as an annual salary but most people don’t understand that so they write stupid shitty contracts like this to make sure teachers have a harder time leaving the industry. If teachers are still young enough or not tied down then they are BTFO once they figure out how dumb things have gotten.

Teaching is definitely no longer a 1st choice profession. Most people use it for loan forgiveness or way to transition into their desired career.
