They are handing out the Laptops to family that don't have the means to get one in order to help with at home learning. What is the % of Laptops you think don't make it back to the schools? I can see a few of these being sold to buy drugs or just getting broken.

Houston is run by idiots.

Without O&G it would be an absolute shithole.

You know that they hand out laptops and tablets when they aren't sheltered in place, right?

Exactly. I doubt Houston wants a large percentage of students falling behind and having to possibly repeat a grade because of a lack of access to educational equipment.

I'm not hating I can just see people taking advantage of this and either selling the laptop for cash especially since some of the people getting this are unemployed and need money due to Covid 19. I can also see some just being broken.

Saw this on TV here in Houston. People in Lexus SUVs lined up in the parking lot to get their free computer.

Why are people getting upset by this? Why do you guys want underprivileged kids to not have a chance at success and continue their education? Kinda weird

We’ve done the same here in Kentucky. They’ve already started a replacement fund. But they’re really cheap arse Chromebooks, so it’s not like they’re passing out top of the line computers and a lot of them were available in schools to be “checked out” to take home.

People take advantage of the system at all levels. Do people abuse food stamps, sure, but for the most part it helps families who need it.

Do corporations use every loophole they can to avoid taxes? You damn right but guess which one most people around here will bitch about?

A laptop costs less than half what the average smartphone costs. Its interesting when you go into the homes of these children and they have big TVs and top line smartphones but there's no computer to be found.

The problem, as usual, is poor prioritizing by irresponsible people.
