I don’t live in BR, but can the city or Mayor explain effectively why they both don’t want area to become St. George and don’t want area to become part of the city of Baton Rouge?

They dance around the one every time it comes up like Neo dodging bullets.

Colomb is struggling to kill it in her own committee and is just resorting to rudeness.

I love how everyone is now assuming this bill passes along with the vote in October resulting in the creation of the city.

apparently the big concern is the unfunded pension liabilities for parish workers

Parish workers wouldn’t include BRPD, BRFD, or any in the other city services like City Court of City Constable.

Nor should it include library workers, BREC workers, sewer workers, mosquitto, EMS and other workers who we fund with our property taxes to independent parish wide agencies.

How many folks does that leave?

So for those who couldn't watch, can we get a summary of what happened? It appears they have adjourned.

Transitional district passed 4-3. That was entertaining.

The bill to allow the entire parish to vote on the new city died in committee. The bill to send the transitional district creation to the floor if the vote in October is successful passed.

Colomb took some hard L's in her own committee. The bill to allow all of EBR to vote failed, and the bill to set up a temporary government if the election is successful passed.

I think it's basically the school system. They'll probably only be required the pay day proportional to what the city-parish pays, so not much. I don't think they realize how shallow a victory that amendment was for them. They tried to use it as a GOTCHA to kill the bill, but the proponents knew it was basically a nothingburger.

Colomb's bill to allow the whole parish to vote was deferred, effectively killing it.

Claitor's bill to set up the mechanism to fund the new City during the transition was passed in committee after adding an amendment that St. George would pay for its share of the City-Parish's unfunded pension liability.
