quote:Don't be getting all smartass with me. You're the one that made a stupid remark. Of course there needs to be a new technology. That's an obvious remark to make. But don't say it in the vain like in a few years and with the right candidate in office, we will finally have the right team in place to find the solution! In order to manufacture plastics, you need ethylene. In order to produce batteries, you need plastics. Get it? You're talking about finding an entirely different chemical route to produce something like plastic, and not use organics to do so. It would be a profound discovery.
No shite Sherlock.
Your type makes these unicorn and rainbow remarks like "one day we won't need oil!" I don't think you understand the weight behind that statement though. It's not just motor oil and gasoline. It's literally everything. It's even food products.

Show me where I made a remark in this thread that wasn't factually accurate. I completely understand our dependence on petroleum. That is the essence of the issue, when your entire society is based on a finite resource there has to be an end.

I have never said that although that time will almost certainly occur because if humans live long enough there will be a day without accessible oil.

I always find these sorts of responses curious, since they are either rooted in wishful thinking or willful ignorance.
I always find the “green/clean energy” crowd to be the ones that are wishful thinking and ignorant. So what kind of base products do you think makes pretty much everything you use on a daily basis? Including that cellphone or laptop you’re typing on. Listen and listen well, the O&G industry will always be around.
How do you get to work? If you even work. Does whatever it is you drive have tires or wooden wagon wheels on it? Even if it’s an electric bicycle or a vehicle it has petroleum products throughout.
You clowns have no clue.

You know what else? The world will end one day too.

They think it’s just about motor oil and gasoline.

It is clear you are fully into the willful ignorance area. If you can't understand petroleum is a finite resource and comprehend what that entails then you are clearly the clown.
Our entire first world society is based around petrochemicals. The demand keeps increasing. At some point, the supply will run out, the more we use it in a destructive fashion like energy production the faster the supply is diminished.
I understand the idea of kicking the can down the road but it is rarely the best answer.

No, at least I do not. The plethora of petrochemical uses and the fact they are relied on by the majority of people is the very reason using the majority of petroleum for energy is a poor long term strategy.

A finite resource that is destroyed in its primary use can't always be king.
Why did people downvote this? Do idiots think it's an unlimited resource?

By my shitty public La education math that would be approx. $14.36 to every human on earth.
And approx. $340.42 to every American.

Announcement soon is the word
Announcement for buying a plant? I know they were looking at buying some assets.
I know they have several mega projects in the work but haven’t heard anything else.

They are buying either full stake or large stake in SABIC. SABIC is already starting multiple joint ventures with Exxon Mobil. So technically, they are already in the US game.

Another thing the Saudi’s may look to buy is natural gas reserves. There is a recent article spelling out how their search for natural gas (increasing domestic use to free up oil exports as well as increased domestic power demand) has been rather costly to date and has been less fruitful to date. The report mentioned that they may well be successful but the majority of the natural gas in the Persian gulf is controlled by Iran and Qatar.

The Saudies own the largest refinery in the U.S.
Posted on 4/7/19 at 7:55 pm to notiger1997
Plus they are looking to be a major player in chemical at that same Motiva site.
Even saw they may think about buying up one of those developing LNG projects along the LA/TX border.

Thought I read somewhere that we became the largest oil exporter in the world last year....how can the Saudis be pulling in that kind of profit when American exporters aren't seeing anywhere close to that amount?

if we wait until we are squeezing the last few drops out it will cause all the other things we use oil for to skyrocket in price.
Ive been hearing this argument for years. But our technology continues to evolve and we get better at extracting oil for Mother Earth. Oil ain’t going anywhere anytime soon( think the next couple of generations).
Is it finite? Yes? Will something replace it? Sure. But we are nowhere near that nor will we be for our or your children’s lifetime. If I’m wrong, great. Give me a car with a flux capacitor. But I think oil is here for a long while to come.

Their costs are much lower. And unlike frac plays, they can turn it on and off.
