Would it make any sense to have one just in case? I lost my AT&T phone and date for a few days. We do have an AT&T landline that never went offline.

Anyone own one? I'm familiar with iridium phones from the Army and were reliable. Any recommendations or thoughts otherwise would be appreciated. TIA

I’m happy as can be. I just switched from Motorola to a Primeco phone.

My neighbor has one from his work. Day after the storm shite wouldn't work. Not sure why. I used them in the army also but seems like a pain.

I tried some at work during Katrina and they weren’t worth a damn…waste of money.

We have them at work and you must be outside and in relatively clear weather. You use them usually in a storm so you not going outside and it's definitely not clear.

My work gave me one two days after Katrina. Just handed it to me with no guidance. All the guys I worked with were wanting to call home and stuff so I let everyone use it. A couple of weeks later I get a call from HQ about my $9,000 phone bill. I told them I wasn't told NOT to use it and they let it go. I think FEMA ended up covering the bill anyway.

Great for emergency use. I wouldn't be calling my old lady for long talks on it at the rates they charge.

I use an Inreach satellite texting device for backpacking. Worked well the days Ida killed AT&T. Can only text but it’s fairly cheap.

Inreach are popular around here. Weboost is also an option for your car. Those seem to be very popular in areas that have no signal but uninterrupted line of sight.

iPhone 14 is expected to have satellite phone capability. It would be the only reason I purchase a new phone.

Going to use a Garmin inreach when I stage rally race my Volvo 240. Don't want to deal with a ham license.

I wonder if they knew that was going to still be instantly recognized 25 years later.
