I’m sure that schools will end up being forced to accept a certain percentage of high diversity score, low SAT score applicants.
Well ya. That's the entire point.

In the article the SAT guy basically posturizes that his test is useless. After all, what's the point of the test score if colleges are just interested in socio-economic standing? Seems like the colleges could just use GPA and a relative high school ranking to come to the same decisions.
I hope those asians win their lawsuit and all of this garbage gets put to bed.

This will result in more people attending college who have zero chance to graduate....

So now we are just further spacing out things being based on race.
Kids won't find out their score, but if you live in "the woodlands" and your parents make 250k plus, you are getting a low one, even if you're best friends with kids of color

Great so more students will be mismatched to schools that are too hard for them, then they drop out or switch to an easier major that won’t earn them any money after graduation
Yay for diversity!

The whole setup is bullshite but that's the worst part.
If you dickheads are giving me an "adversity" score, I want to see it.

If that’s not racism, discrimination, or profiling, what is?

We’ve got some absolute fricking losers in this country.

The formula does not consider race, the College Board said, or individual data about a student’s family or financial circumstances.

The adversity score, which officials described Thursday, will focus on social and economic factors associated with a student’s school and neighborhood, such as median family income, crime reports, housing circumstances, college attendance rates and parental education, according to the College Board

One of the huge downsides of living here is that the academics are so competitive that even if you perform well in High School you can still end up far outside of the top 10%. Just because your parents are loaded doesn't mean school was any easier for you.

A few years ago I had to take the state's 8100 exam and made a perfect score. A black disabled woman applying for the temp auditing position made a 114
The position was merely to spread knowledge of the state's lagov system into the private sector.
My former boss showed me the results. She received an almost 20 point bump just by being there.
That doesn't sound like a huge issue, until you consider a 70 is a passing grade. And someone could be bumped from 50 to passing.

Yea I grew up there and went to TWHS when we had I think 4 kids score 1580s or above on the SATs. I was barely top 20% with like a 3.75 in tons of AP/Honors classes. Just didn't matter

Students should be able to opt out of getting an adjusted score, but getting it should only help you. No one should lose points here.

Agreed.
We just disagree on the root of the problems and how to address it.
And if it helps someone, and doesnt hurt you, why do you care? Envy is a childless emotion

Because it does in fact hurt someone. The person who didn't get in because the kid with the "correct" adversity score did.

Which will turn into easier classes and a more ignorant workforce coming out of college to boost graduation rates. The ripple effect is endless.
