I have a Samsung fridge and gas range on order. I did that after researching and reviewing to the best of my abilities.

The thing looks nice. I haven't had any problems with the ice maker which seems to be a common issue. Among other minor things, my main problem is the refrigerator component freezes due to a faulty defrost sensor. It is starting to happen more frequently so I may attempt to replace the part my self.

What is the warranty reimbursement like for the repair outfits? Does it end up costing them money to deal with that kind of goat rope?

Whirlpool Direct Drives are the best. I like them better than the old Maytags. Both will last forever and ever.
You can even repair the transmissions in them. So the most expensive part can be fixed.

we had a fancy $1,000 fricking front load samsung that seemed to take 14 hours to do a load of clothes.

it took so long that when we finally heard the little 'samsung ditty' when done my wife would quietly sing along with the last 6 notes saying 'your fricking clothes are done'.

i replaced the logic board (it was like a $200 part) myself because it needed a 'firmware update'..nice..and because the constantly vibrations had damaged the electronics.

imagine my joy at throwing away what appeared to be a brand new circuit board because it couldn't be repaired.

the new set came from craigslist ($100 for the pair) and other than breaking the electrical coil on ther dryer moving it from the storage building (a 30 minute repair and a $20 part) the only problem was the damper pads on the washer were shot and i had to scrape them off & install some new ones ($8 for the pads).

they are supposed to last about 20 years before they wear out again so i'm pretty happy with my ROI on these.

i need to give props to you as well for some timely advice on these units.

its amazing what a tiny bit of maintenance will do for the life of these machines. people just think you have to throw stuff away when it breaks..and in the case of the OP..they do!

samsung-- takes planned obsolescence to a whole new level! your machine past its lifecycle? it will blow up remotely!

Samsung can't get people to sign on with them. I was talking to the Samsung rep at the convention in Dallas and he was saying how they were losing servicers. I told him my region and he asked me to sign up. I gave him my info. Let him take me to lunch and then he offered $69 flat per repair. I had to hold back laughing. That's less than most companies Service calls and equal to my Fridge/freezer service fee. No way I would consider all labor and service for $69 per. You just can't get techs to do it. The only ones who will are large companies with a lot of hourly employees that need to fill time. They can do it, because if you send a guy making $15 per, you can still turn a profit, albeit slim.

All Samsung cares about is 1) do you have $1M liability insurance, 2) do you have $250k vehicle insurance, 3) do you have a pulse?

I have one of the recalled models I got in 2012 and have had no issues with it. Looked into this recall and was offered $40 if buying non samsung, $140 for samsung or this "fix"

Not really worth it, so will just do nothing.

Advice... Buy your appliances from local mom and pop places. They will usually deliver and install and have a guy that works on them in case something happens. Also those smaller stores usually only carry whirlpool and maytag type appliances. Those are far superior machines to Samsung and GE.

I talk to guys around the country that only sell Independent Maytags (before they were bought by Whirlpool) and Direct Drive Whirlpools and they sell them for $300 a pop. The same price as a new bottom of the line machine.
They strip them down and put them back together clean as new and warranty for a year.

Not a bad gig. I have 8-10 DD whirlpools sitting in a storage unit now. No time to get them going. I thought I did good getting $150 for them.

Whirlpool = GM (multiple companies, similar platforms, ie WP, Maytag, Kitchenaid, Jenn Air)
Frigidaire = Ford (not in sales, just in the long term thorn in WP side, but usually longer lasting)
GE = Chrysler (number three, and build quality sucks)

Bosch = BMW/Mercedes

Samsung = Daewoo

LG = KIA

knowing what i know now i'd pay $300 in a heartbeat for an overhauled unit.

i noticed they are getting harder to find on craigslist. when i bought my set i had my choice of like 10 or 15 different ads and picked the set that was in the best shape.

Samsung got too big, and then the old saying that they can do a million things or they can do one thing well.

Washers/ Dryers - Speed Queen

Fridges - ....... all modern fridges have issues.

Ovens - Capital or Blue Star (Lexuses I guess)

A customer recently had a NXR range, first I had seen, a cheaper chinese made oven. I was surprised by how simple it was to diagnose and take it apart, the systems were very basic, I would suspect that oven would last a long time. I would get one, then sub the components I could to UL listed American ones. (Igniters from Germany, China and Spark module from Austrailia) all that can be subbed over.

When I sell a unit people ask how old. When they hear more than 6-7 years they hang up. People want new, and it's hard to educate them that new sucks. I was thinking of blogging that and pointing things out. On the other hand I make decent money when I repair new appliances, because electronics are easier to diagnose than mechanics.

Our 2 year old Whirlpool Cabrio bit the dust Thanksgiving day. The rotor went out for the 2nd time. Lowes got tired of fixing it and just gave me a Lowes gift card to replace the value of the machine.
