Amen on the Scan and Go app. Costco is nicer than Sam's, but do Sam's because I can bypass the checkout with the app and Costco near me is crazy stupid crowded whenever I go.
And as others have said, there is a new member special right now for Sam's that makes it effectively free for the first year. They run those deals pretty often, so we just cancel at the end of the first year and sign back up the next time they run one of these specials. Probably been about three years since we actually paid for the membership.

Costco allll the way!! Gas price is the same for Sam’s and Costco but main reason I got a membership

We have both costco and sams. Sams is closer, so we go there most of the time. Prices are comparable, Costco is higher on meats, but the quality might be slightly better.
Overall, since we shop there more, Sams is my first choice, but they are very similar.

Also their gas station is not reporting skimmers on the card readers every other week like all the other gas stations in Denham.

My dad did a family business sams membership when it started about 30 years ago... I’ve never have to pay since we are included under his. When we lived on east coast though, we went to Costco

I prefer sams mostly because they don’t blade tenderize their steaks
Yea, that’s why it says on that Prime tenderloin label to grill to 165°.
It really is a wonder that more people don’t get sick from that. You are taking the bacteria on the surface of the steak and pushing it to the center. I still buy my steaks there though.

Sams club now accepts food stamps. If you go at the beginning of the month they are completely wiped out but other than that it is great.
Sam’s has taken food stamps since 2008 (as a result to BJ’s wholesale taking them and making a lot of money) - and newsflash - Costco does too
All intra-state stores that sell groceries are required to take them as per USDA regulations.
To answer the OP’s question - it depends on what you eat - if you like dried mango, black beans pasta, and dried snap beans join Costco. If you like frito lay products and other things you can find at Walmart join Sam’s. Costco’s produce and wine is better. Sam’s is usually cheaper on some meats.
Their milk is from the same dairy processing plant (although Costco is usually a little cheaper). Bread is the same.
I go to both but I have a large family.

I like Costco much better after having memberships to both. But I did like Sam’s self checkout app that Costco doesn’t have.

We’re members of Costco and Sams
Only advantage Sams has is that their isles are marked whereas Costco has no signs. I’m leaning toward Costco being the better club at this point and may drop my Sams membership once the current one expires
ETA: also Sams has the scan app that allows you to bypass checking out as mentioned above

I have a Costco card and MIL has a Sam’s Club card so we go to both stores for our shopping. Works out really well.

If you download the Sam's app...you can "Scan and Go" and you never have to wait at check out again. One of the greatest apps ever.
Our biggest gripe is they will stop carrying a product we like; they used to have a great spicy sausage but no more. That trend seems to have increased since the virus came.
Big plus is bulk buying items w/ long shelf life such as TP, paper towels and even eggs.
Nearest COSTCO is an over an hour away for us so that’s not an option.

I used to be a sams club member. I have been with Costco since they opened here a few years ago and haven’t looked back. I went to sams club a few months ago with some family who are still members and I can’t believe how run down it looks now.

I use Sam's. No Costco near me.
I buy all my toilet paper and paper towels by the case from them. I buy the Members Mark brand and it is just as good as the name brand. I also buy the Tide pods and dish washing soap.
I buy some of the frozen items/meats and various things from the shelves.
I enjoy being a member and wouldn't give it up.

I have a Sam's card and my family goes there on a semi regular basis. Costo is better but Sam's near my house and Costco is not.

in lafayette it is the same shite as costco but slightly more ghetto. but at costco the white folks act a little more uppity like they are special.

Both Sam's and Costco are like cattle corrals. I go there for bulk items and steaks. Regular grocery shopping- not so much.
