Well, going by the forecast at that time, my family and I left Heron Bay yesterday evening, mainly due to the flood threat. We just got a hotel room north of I-10 to avoid the headache. May not be as bad as initial forecast but we weren't taking that chance.

Nothing wrong with being safe. If I lived on the coast I’d be out. No power and floods are no fun with small children.

It's 77° in Florence

Makes me feel bad for those on the coast.

Bigger September meteorological screwup:

Forecast of Sally or completely missing the cold front?

I'm much more pissed about the cold front but this Sally stuff may be fungible.

Neither.

Cold front brought record cold as far south as the Rio Grande Valley and Northern Mexico. This cold blast was in the forecast out beyond day 10. Over time the spatial extent shifted west but overall a very good long range forecast.

ETA: we had potential for a Gulf system on the board, if the cold front didn't clear the Gulf. Stupid cold front!

The 1st Sally track was issued 5 days ago and it looks like landfall will be within 100 miles of that 1st forecast.

But don't worry, I'm sure there'll be plenty more for people to complain about next week with potentially another Gulf system on tap.

Stormchaser selfie - Mark from hurricanetrack setting up a fixed camera on Mobile Bay. Might not get a ton of surge if that camera ends up being on the western side of Sally with a North wind, but should be interesting since that isn't the elevated hwy.

We're being bombarded with flash flood warnings and voluntary evacuation of low lying area notices. It's raining.a.lot.

Center is not moving much more to the west but rain bands are starting to expand and fill-in in that direction.

St. Bernard and Plaquemines may get some rain after all.

Looks like we may get some quick light rain in Mandeville being pushed off the storm to the west.
