What is causing Sally to degrade?

All those things listed plus it appears she burned herself out. Hurricanes are Nature’s air conditioners. Being slow, She has managed to cool the area and water down around the center. With no speed, it can’t replenish its strength. Amazing stuff.

If it doesn’t weaken considerably the weakening will broaden the wind field and increase the storm surge impacts. With the slow forward motion and shallow shelf of the northern gulf coast along with all the bays and inlets the storm surge was going to be pretty significant anyways.

I’m pissed. This is 4 or 5 times now in the past year that they’ve gotten me ready for a little minor hurricane excitement all to end up having ZERO, literally zero impacts. This time they even texted me at 4am on a Sunday morning, 50+ hours before impacts to tell me about my life being threatened. I want to be a meteorologist

Yeah there's always people that are unhappy no matter what. Complaining about not getting a hurricane i swear Even a minor hurricane can cause damage with trees falling and all. I've been through many hurricanes from my time in louisiana and now florida and one thing is for sure i will never complain about not getting a hurricane unless there is a severe drought or something. Even with that it better be a cat 1

I remember when I was young I’d like sitting on the porch watching the tropical storm winds. Had no idea the stress my parents were dealing with at the time.... now I do.

If being woken up at 4am prevents just a cat 1 from hitting us, sign me up

I don’t like the sound of that.

Water has come up quite a bit on the Amite since yesterday.

And absolutely no wind.

To the experts here, now that the storm appears to be weakening, doesn’t that decrease the chance of a significant turn? I believe Duke posted yesterday a weakened storm due to shear would more likely head more west, while a strong organized storm would turn north earlier.

Not saying I don’t enjoy a nice breeze. But I don’t get why people get annoyed when a huge storm misses.

Only personal inconvenience is that fedex stopped deliveries yesterday. As they should have.

A storm sitting offshore and dying out before it does any major destruction is a great outcome. If the rain totals come down too it would be about as good as it could get considering the outlook yesterday.

Our trash runs every day except Christmas, rain or shine. They are more reliable than the mailman.

Someone so smart like yourself should know that a lot of people that live in New Orleans have camps or second homes in Mississippi and far east Louisiana. I’m not at all worries about New Orleans
