LA has had 56 hurricanes make landfall in recorded history, 18 of which were major. MS, with that little sliver of a coastline, has seen 19 landfalls, 8 of which were major. Alabama has an even smaller footprint and has seen 24 landfalls, but only 5 were major. That’s pretty crazy.
Apparently Alabama has 53 miles of coastline, Mississippi has 44, and LA has 397. So less than 25% of the coastline of LA, but 76% of the landfalls of LA.

I’d be very surprised if it reaches 2. Just based on reports. Bit I don’t know anything

Has anyone ever delved into why Florida, with all the coastline it could ever want, needs to reach over and steal most of Alabama's? It's 2020, someone needs to fix this.

It's not the teachers. It's the kids. The schools don't want kids getting stuck at school or on a bus if the weather turns bad.
About 15 years ago Ascension Parish woke up to one of those winter storms that dropped a couple inches of snow/ice type shite on the roads. Buses had already started picking kids because that shite starts at 5:30am. Kids got to school with no teachers and few administrators. School was canceled and kids got bused back to their parents who were stuck on the roads in that mess.
People were pissed the administration didn't cancel schools before 5:30a

Same here. Thankful for those that do know and are breaking things down. But when I read things sometimes that aren't clarified, I interpret what it means to me, and often it's not the case.
ETA: And for my family, they think I'm some kind of expert because I regurgitate what the experts on here say. Gotta make sure my info is correct.

The vast majority of NOLA Metro is Working. Why should teachers be treated differently?
It’s not about treating teachers differently. Look, I love a good teachers are lazy thread as much as the next guy, but the decisions of the school system are far more impactful than whether or not some baw has to go into work.
It’s also incredibly easy to cancel in 2020 considering how many schools have virtual primary/back up plans.
The schools system is an economic behemoth, and for that reason it has to move first. It’s not nimble like a traditional employer.

I understand. Someone said it was for teachers to prepare. Weather was not predicted to go downhill until Mon evening

Canceling school is also as simple as sending out a text or email. You don't have to put it on the news and hope everyone sees it. It is also much easier for parents to let the school know they want school to be canceled and why.

So they should take the risk because there has been no negative outcomes to this point?
Pretty stupid risk management there.

We need lawsuits when these kids find out they havn't learned anything in 2 years. There's such a thing as fiduciary responsibility.
