Huh?
No, I'm saying that it is. And I’m saying that fact matters. You seem to be saying it doesn’t?
So we agree that an important aspect of “standard of living” always goes up”, but you want to ignore that fact when we compare how good different generations had it relative to one another? That makes no sense.

Someone made the point that salaries in general have reduced in pay because way more workers i.e. women
No one ever wants to talk about this, but it is true and the biggest reason for the way things are compared to the past.
We live in a feminist society.

The standard is "the standard" for that generation. The average person should be able to maintain the standard of living for their generation.

Bro your medschool was $37 and a pack of skittles
Any decent medschool will set you back 500k. Not only that, by the time you get out of school and find a job you’re in your early to mid 30s. If you focus on debt alone, most women can’t have children by the time they get out.
Add going to military and you’re sure fire going to reduce women in medicine

Back in the day a man could raise his family, a wife and two kids, in a house, with a car, on his salary alone. That was without a college degree.
Two married college graduate professionals struggle to maintain that standard of living now.
Somewhat true BUT when one salary was enough to sustain a family they did not live in a 3500 square foot home and the car they had was good for about 100k miles and then it was worn completely out. If they were unfortunate enough to get in an accident the damned thing would probably have killed at least some of them. They had one TV, 3 channels if they lived close enough to town, one telephone, and they did not have credit cards and would have been dumbstruck had someone mentioned financing a hamburger from a local restaurant let alone paying someone to go get their groceries for them. One could very well live like they did today, anyone with the means to avoid it does so with forethought and malice.

Ah. So you have no clue what you’re talking about.
Also, my wife is a surgeon with no debt and we had two kids during training. 0/2 on points you were trying to make.

Except I do? My wife is a gastro, my BIL is emergency med, my SIL is general surgery, my other BIL is ortho.
Not to mention our friends who are in medicine?

Average debt after med school is around $260,000 and around 75% of med school grads carry debt.

turns out is was a loan with 19% interest
I call BS on this, a private loan sure, but those can be discharged via bankruptcy. What federal program is charging near credit card rates??
Also, he's an MD. There's no type of consolidation program available??
I work in hospital admin & many of our local banks offer MD specific mortgages at heavily discounted rates because medical field income is so stable & the risk is so low.

Back in what day are you talking about? We got married in 1980 and at least half of my friends needed needed 2 incomes. All the stay at home moms were married to men with college degrees and pretty lucrative careers.
So what are they doing?

Most ‘good kids’ don’t care about all that crap. They just want to support a family which seems impossible with the cost just to live.
Most that I know (millennials) care a whole lot. They want new homes with every modern convenience, at least 2500 sq ft, very nice cars, big vacations, designer purses, fancy stuff. I look at them and wonder how they actually do have it.

Well they are in their 40s with kids. Seems like a reasonable want to me

Amen. They do these press gainey surveys only to tell us "your results said you wanted more diversity in the workplace". Corporate America is a joke.

But wait, I was told this current president was going to fix all of this?! So why is he creating trade wars he has no idea how to handle, and giving billionaires tax breaks? He is increasing not only everyday costs for the middle and lower class, but increasing taxes on those same people.
Y'all all wailed and cried for the past 4 years, so why isn't your taco guy fixing anything like he said he would? PS, don't say OH DOGE IS SAVING US MILLIONS. There is absolutely no evidence that "DOGE" is doing anything helpful. Where is the money going? Elon's fireworks company? In his offshore accounts? No one here knows.
