I’m sure the deciders unanimously said New Orleans first.

Please keep any facts and logic out of the OT’s daily anti-New Orleans thread.

They announced the closing of the Saks location in Birmingham that’s in an upscale shopping center.

Of course only one demographic went to that store.

The demise of retail in New Orleans started when Little Rock-based Dillard’s acquired D.H. Holmes.

Canal street should look like Chicagos Michigan Ave. That street is a perfect sign of this cities failures.

Canal place is picking up a Tesla shop this year - so somewhat a trade.

I hear rumors of expanded entertainment coming in too

Will have to back fill more retail but there’s positives in the building.

The junior league can open another store there since Rouses kicked them out the old spot.

I’ve never even heard of that department store. We’ll survive without it.

With the internet and online shopping, you are going to see a lot of this across the country.

Welcome to 25 years ago. Many businesses have evolved in the last 25 years to account for this. Plenty of stores are doing fine with brick and mortar. Hermes, LV, Chanel, many of the higher end watch ADs, high end jewelers (like Tiffany, Harry Winston), Golden Goose, Brooks Brothers, Goyard, Lululemon, Vuiori, Zara, Sephora and many others are all doing great with their brick and mortars. The Saks business model is only going to succeed in major cities like New York, but these others are going to be in brick and mortar stores for the foreseeable future.

Canal Place is pretty useless to the typical shopper. All of the useful stores left years ago. Vendors have been pulling out of Saks for a while now, so this is no surprise. The only store in Canal Place that seems to do well is Louis Vuitton. With tax “refunds” hitting soon, there will be a line. I’m surprised Tiffany’s is still hanging in there.

I know some men will be relieved when their potential girlfriend doesn’t have the opportunity to visit this store downtown to extort a purchase for a Saks purse for a few grand.

The wife has a friend at Fendi who does well enough to pull 100k on about half commission, I believe. She reached out for some insider news.

That is a lot of Chanel No. 5.

My reaction if I saw that on my credit card bill.

Typical NOLA hate from the OP brings out the morons who don't read. This is a national story with regional implications. Not the other way around.

The OP has a tendency to catastrophize a lot of his posts, and I ignore many of them, but there isn't anything in this post that can be considered "hate".
