I've been wet shaving for years. Also use straight razors for a while but it just became too time consuming with maintaining the edges and such.
If you guys haven't tried Mike's natural soaps your missing out big time. Also soap commander, Phoenix artisan, barrister and mann. Tobs is a good oldie but goodie along with proraso. Try Tobs forest.
Permasharps are good blades. Polsilvers are as well. Gillette blue too.
My razor for years has been an above the tie s1 slant razor. If you're feeling kinda adventurous, the single edge razors are super duper sharp and efficient but cost more

I mean you’re not wrong, but modern day is all about convenience and time, and the 7 blade swivel wins every time.
It really is a microcosm snapshot of our present day on-demand zeitgeist.

idk why i haven't switched over to these. i shave every day or every other day and it feels pretty retarded to keep buying those cheap plastic disposable razors

If you’re interested in starting this experience, do yourself a favor and check out Rockwell Razors. They are a relatively unique adjustable safety razor which allows the novice (or expert) to choose how aggressive the cutting angle of your blade by changing the baseplate. I wasted a lot of money on some high end razors that just beat the shite out of my face. Someone suggested that I try this one (6C or 6S) and it changed my opinion on the spot.

Taylor of Bond Royal Forest cream
Bumping an old thread because I just got a tub of this stuff, and it’s my new favorite TOBS scent.
2nd- rose
3rd- almond
This is the first time I’ve purchased shaving cream in over 4 years (I was weaning my stockpile down. I was basically out).
I have a bottle of Creed Aventus. It definitely inspires the scent. I, on a whim, bought a bottle of Mr Taylor’s aftershave (it’s called “lotion,” but it’s a liquid which is what I prefer). I will probably buy a bottle of the Royal Forest aftershave and maybe the body wash, too. It’s a great scent.

If anyones look ping at razors I just recently had to replace my Parker 99R because I dropped it and it broke. I decided to give the Rockwell T2 a try and it’s amazing. Highly recommend.

Sorry I missed it if it was posted earlier, but this thread deserves one of the best parodies in Onion history (when it was still The Onion and not what it has evolved into today).
Gillete CEO: We are doing FIVE blades
Gillete CEO: We are doing FIVE blades
quote:
frick Everything, We're Doing Five Blades
Would someone tell me how this happened? We were the fricking vanguard of shaving in this country. The Gillette Mach3 was the razor to own. Then the other guy came out with a three-blade razor. Were we scared? Hell, no. Because we hit back with a little thing called the Mach3Turbo. That's three blades and an aloe strip. For moisture. But you know what happened next? Shut up, I'm telling you what happened—the bastards went to four blades. Now we're standing around with our cocks in our hands, selling three blades and a strip. Moisture or no, suddenly we're the chumps. Well, frick it. We're going to five blades.
Sure, we could go to four blades next, like the competition. That seems like the logical thing to do. After all, three worked out pretty well, and four is the next number after three. So let's play it safe. Let's make a thicker aloe strip and call it the Mach3SuperTurbo. Why innovate when we can follow? Oh, I know why: Because we're a business, that's why!
You think it's crazy? It is crazy. But I don't give a shite. From now on, we're the ones who have the edge in the multi-blade game. Are they the best a man can get? frick, no. Gillette is the best a man can get.
What part of this don't you understand? If two blades is good, and three blades is better, obviously five blades would make us the best fricking razor that ever existed. Comprende? We didn't claw our way to the top of the razor game by clinging to the two-blade industry standard. We got here by taking chances. Well, five blades is the biggest chance of all.
Here's the report from Engineering. Someone put it in the bathroom: I want to wipe my arse with it. They don't tell me what to invent—I tell them. And I'm telling them to stick two more blades in there. I don't care how. Make the blades so thin they're invisible. Put some on the handle. I don't care if they have to cram the fifth blade in perpendicular to the other four, just do it!
You're taking the "safety" part of "safety razor" too literally, grandma. Cut the strings and soar. Let's hit it. Let's roll. This is our chance to make razor history. Let's dream big. All you have to do is say that five blades can happen, and it will happen. If you aren't on board, then frick you. And if you're on the board, then frick you and your father. Hey, if I'm the only one who'll take risks, I'm sure as hell happy to hog all the glory when the five-blade razor becomes the shaving tool for the U.S. of "this is how we shave now" A.
People said we couldn't go to three. It'll cost a fortune to manufacture, they said. Well, we did it. Now some egghead in a lab is screaming "Five's crazy?" Well, perhaps he'd be more comfortable in the labs at Norelco, working on fricking electrics. Rotary blades, my white arse!
Maybe I'm wrong. Maybe we should just ride in Bic's wake and make pens. Ha! Not on your fricking life! The day I shadow a penny-ante outfit like Bic is the day I leave the razor game for good, and that won't happen until the day I die!
The market? Listen, we make the market. All we have to do is put her out there with a little jingle. It's as easy as, "Hey, shaving with anything less than five blades is like scraping your beard off with a dull hatchet." Or "You'll be so smooth, I could snort lines off of your chin." Try "Your neck is going to be so friggin' soft, someone's gonna walk up and tie a goddamn Cub Scout kerchief under it."
I know what you're thinking now: What'll people say? Mew mew mew. Oh, no, what will people say?! Grow the frick up. When you're on top, people talk. That's the price you pay for being on top. Which Gillette is, always has been, and forever shall be, Amen, five blades, sweet Jesus in heaven.

It is a nice shave. It also will cut the shite out of you and make you bleed like a stick pig if you’re not careful.
Creamo shave cream is also incredible.

More Safety Razor Tips:
1) A hot towel on your face for a few minutes, or shower before a shave, opens up the pores on your face leading to a closer shave.
2) Putting the razor head under water in a cup will extend the life of the blade as the metal cannot rust if it is not exposed to oxygen.
Also, I tried a few different blades until I landed on the Astra blade as best for my skin type. It was eye opening how much various brands shaved differently.

I don't know how much they are now but a few years back I was able to get a couple hundred Gillete blades for around 10 bucks on ebay. I think they were indian but they work fine.
You probably shaved with resharpened blades that Rajesh used.

Cheap bag of 12 Schtieck razors from Wal Mart always worked just fine for me

Never used a safety razor but I just bought the 6C off of Amazon and figure I give it a try.

Merkur safety razor
Truefitt and Hill Trafalgar shaving cream
Badger brush
Proraso Aftershave
That’s been my lineup for a year or two. Can’t beat the shave. Used to waste my money on Gillette but never looking back.

Protip:. Shave your throat/Adams apple area even if there's no hair. It tightens the skin, removes dead cells and makes it look a lot better.
