You're life will change again of you upgrade to a cream like this:

Stirling - Barbershop
Stirling has some really good shave soaps & they're a little more budget friendly with a lot to choose from.
I like their body soap bars too.
Executive man, Triumph, and Baker Street are good. Never tried their barbershop.

I found one with a mug when my Grandfather died. Been using his safety razor every day now for years without complaint or regret. I still use edge shaving gel though soap works just about as well.

I haven’t shaved in probably 6 years, but if I ever get signed by the Yankees, this is what I’ll use for sure.

If it comes out of a can you are cheating yourself out of half the enjoyment. Try a tube of Proraso or a tub of Taylor of Olde Bond Street and report back. Lol

The extra cost is meaningless since each will last 6 months or more.

Been using this type razor for over 20 years now. I get my blades in bulk when I need them, and buy enough to last me years before needing to get more.

I have a Merkur brand safety razor that is my go-to but also have 2 old German steel straight razors that I'll go to once in a while just for the hell of it.

If anyone remembers the scene in "Blazing Saddles" where Gene Wilder is shaving with a straight razor in the Sheriff's Office and whipping that thing all over his face--------------that's NOT how it's done unless you want to find out what a styptic pencil is used for.

I have been using this for years with Wilkinson sword classic blades.
Dial up to 9 with this razor .
Generally, the higher the number, the closer and deeper the shave.

So do any of you safety razor users have the old fashion medicine cabinet with the razor blade disposal slot?

For you youngsters, basically the blade is deposited in your bathroom wall behind the sheetrock, where decades later, a pile of old, rusty blades would be discovered by hipsters who bought your house from your estate and are remodeling

That stubble needs a sharp arse blade.

Yeah it does. Sometimes I will use the clippers to shave my face if I let the hair grow a long time then go back with the razor. It seems like the stubble makes the razor stick a little bit.

Does anyone use one of these:

Just posted in another reply that I have 2 German Steel Straight Razors that I occasionally use.

They are not for an impatient type for sure.

First time I ever used the straight razor, I hadn't shaved my mustache in over 15 years and decided to give it a go to see what my upper lip looked like.

First pass I made I felt a sting and then the blood started flowing. I had developed a small mole that my thick mustache hid. I didn't have one prior to growing the mustache and cut it clean off with that blade.

Lesson learned. Trim the facial hair down if long and THEN shave.

I remember my grandparents having one of those in their old house when I was a kid.

Both are better served with a boars' hair Semogue brush than a badger which is a bit TOO soft

If you're finding badger to be too soft, you might simply prefer a denser knot. I find a lot of the "value" brushes have a brush length that's too long for the knot size, so it gets... floppy? for lack of a better description.

The wall mounted medicine cabinet in the bathroom of my man cave has that slot in it, and I can vividly remember the one in the house I grew up in also had that slot.

I still sell every old Gillette safety razor I buy. I take them all the way apart, sanitize, clean, polish, sanitize again, and package them with new razors. Most people wouldn't believe what some of them bring, particularly the adjustables and Fat Boys. I buy all the adjustable Gillettes I come across, single cuts, too, if they are cheap. I also buy all the boxes or cases I find, along with the blade dispensers. There's money in those razors. They bring a good deal more if they are shave ready when you sell them.

I just finished up refurbishing a friend's razor that belonged to his dad when he was in the Army. It was just a basic adjustable, but is still better than anything you'll buy new.

I would recommend not going against the grain using a blade razor. That just increases the changes of a cut.

But I agree that a very sharp single blade is the best, as long as the blade is fresh and sharp.

Is this what you've learned since your transition/hormone replacement therapy?

Guess that goober hasn't had a proper straight razor shave by a professional barber.
