Juan Brown (blancoliro youtube channel) is saying Dan was practicing for an air show when the crash happened.

I know his video was intended to be instructional, but to be indirectly speculating on cause only 48 hours later is poor form.

Wow. I can't imagine flying one now. That plane had to be what? 80 years old?

To maintain their airworthiness certification the planes and engines are required to have inspections every so many years/hours of flight.

But, unfortunately, those inspections don't always catch everything. A good friend lost his stepdad in the late 90s when a cylinder head broke on his vintage Steerman biplane right after takeoff. The engine only had 10 hours on it since it's most recent required inspection.

Icarus flew too close to the Sun.

Nobody remembers his sacrifice.

He owned the mat yard, right? I think he kept a lot of equipment by the old cannery as well.

Govt owns the yard. His company casts the mat.

You think they didn’t put enough fuel on the plane to get from South Carolina to Baton Rouge ? They filled it up. Gas was spewing out the engines and catching fire. Just a hint … that’s not normal.

Huge loss for Aviation community. Dan put on some great airshows over the years in that plane.

There used to be a P-51 Mustang and a F4U C orsair in the NE Louisiana area. Merle Gustafson had the Corsair while Heber had the Mustang. It was in the early 80's timeframe.

No offense but that’s due to ignorance.

i understand flying is statistically much safer than flying, but I will never fly on a small plane, or private either. Those are the ones that go down! Not the big, USA air line planes.

When your number is up, it's up.

I'd rather buy it flying my P-51 Mustang than from a heart attack while taking a shite.

I guess it is a chicken/egg thing but the official cause is fuel exhaustion. The pilots knew they had an issue with the plane rapidly consuming fuel but did not stop to refuel or repair the issue. At the end of the day they ran out of fuel and had the opportunity to prevent that so it is still pilot error
