Went to St Anthony's in the 70s (K5 through 8th). Yeah, Sacred Heart was considered to be in a rough part of town back then.

I have an aunt whose family was big into Sacred Heart. And her nephew got struck by lightning running off that baseball field. All I got.

I remember that and think the same thing happened to some kid at Our Lady of Mercy a few years later.

Not often you get a post that starts with kids and grandkids... then ends up with a handjob

My daughters went there. It's a good school. Not like the kids are wandering around that neighborhood.

Same here. Although according to the picture on the wall in the gym entrance says it was the 1970’s

Went to school there in the second and third grades (1957-58ish), it was nice. We lived a couple blocks away on Adams Ave which was whiter than St. George is today.

Busted my scalp wide open when I fell off the merry-go-round in the back playground and later slit my wrist wide open when I fell on a broken Dr Pepper bottle in front of the gym. Ahh, the good old days.

But still looking for old school yard crush Babs Bordelon.

My oldest plays sports with boys from SH. They are down to 1 class per grade, each grade has ~20 kids.

Mural by Dom Gregory De Wit, a dutch Benedictine Monk brought over to do works for the Benedictine abbeys in America. He painted works in Indiana and Southern California. He did the Mural at Sacred Heart and then lived for 10 years in Covington at St. Joseph's Abbey doing the work he was most well known for. The refectory hall at the Abbey is known as his best major work. De Wit was an irrascible character= known for doing the murals with a cigarette permanently hanging from his mouth. He was also a bit of a rebel, painting the head monk he didn't like as part of a mural with an ugly scowl. His works outside of theology were pushing the boundaries as well. Interesting character.

Came to post the same thing. Very interesting and unique for a Baton Rouge parish. Also the church building was designed to mimic the moorish style of the current priests home church in Italy.

The school building, fence, and sign remind me of the neighborhood NOLA Catholic schools.

My grandparents had their wedding at The Sacred Heart of Jesus Church and the black and photos of the mural make it look even more imposing.

That's exactly the way someone who was struck by lightening would describe it.

Recess on asphalt fricked up many SHS young lads dickie navy uniform pants. I remember when jimmy busted up both knees and was out for a month during the daily pickup football game back in the 80's. Was an Amazing school with Nuns making us write lines for everything they could come up with is all I got. Thx for the memory

I should clarify. I didn't mean to suggest that one of my great teachers gave me the handy. It was a teacher I didn't really like because he made me run extra in gym class. We didnt wear jockstraps in those days. Just some tight shorts and gravity. Sorry for the confusion.

I'm even more confused after your clarification.
