No but I played baseball games at their field for a couple years in middle school. Think the league was called CYL or something like that.

The ghetto Catholic school when I was a kid was St. Gerard. At least Sacred Heart still exists.

St. Gerard/Redemptorist was in the Italian part of town. Not so many Italians live there these days.

I have an aunt whose family was big into Sacred Heart. And her nephew got struck by lightning running off that baseball field. All I got.

Brian Tullier? I was just a toddler when that happened. But that hit home for every family of little league players around the city and beyond.

July 1980.

Went to high school with people who went there. I remember being told they would occasionally find shell casings outside during recess. That was in the 90s.

As a general rule, most Catholic schools are founded then the area becomes the ghetto around it. Whether that is just correlation or causation is another argument.

Not that NBR (Redemptorist) or the Lower 9th (original
Holy Cross), etc, were ever great but those areas were blue collar white way back when and then went straight into the toilet.

I believe Cathedral in Natchez is also in one of the shittier parts of town.

I don’t think they tend to move from their current location until they either have outgrown the location (Catholic - BR, which used to be downtown) or the facilities have been completely destroyed (original Holy Cross in Katrina).

Damn.

40 years later and his name is the first thing I think of when caught in a bad thunderstorm at a ball park or anywhere for that matter.

The legend I heard always was that it hit him through the metal button on top of the cap.
