Wednesday evening, a posting on the town’s official Facebook page said: “Evacuate Webbers Falls immediately. The barges are loose and has the potential to hit the lock and dam 16. If the dam breaks, it will be catastrophic!! Leave now!!”

They haven't made it to the lock and dam yet. They say they should have been there by now so there's a chance they got hung up somewhere.

It's been brought up in the ongoing tornado thread.

IMO, it's worthy of it's own thread, since this is not necessarily tornado related.

Just scrolling through Twitter and it seems like officials are hopeful they washed ashore somewhere since there hasn’t been any damage reported to the dams yet

The shite up there is crazy. My grandfather left Lincoln, NE to go to Arkansas and said the interstate was washed out. He had to take a crazy long way using back roads

Infrastructure in the Midwest has been absolutely destroyed

Gonna see if i can find the Facebook link of the barges clearing through one bridge earlier today. Was interesting to see them free float through the bridge structure and not hit anything.

They were loose earlier today then were secured but broke away a second time.

I’m surprised something like this hasnt happened around one of the spillways/ORCS yet.

"The City of Webbers Falls believes that if the barges impact the dam, it will be catastrophic. However, the lockmaster in charge of Lock and Dam 16 believes the worst-case scenario would be to break a couple of the gates."

Back in my day, we'd have manned up and brought galoshes to school. Just another excuse for teachers to get a day off from school. Lot of drama about nothing.

live stream of the damn doing it's job

ETA: They've lost the barges. Can't find them.

Wtf are you laughing about?

The Arkansas River and Oklahoma are experiencing historic flooding, along with tornadoes.

All I can think of is he must be drunk. There is nothing funny about any of this. People have lost their lives and more are in imminent danger of doing so. It's not a laughing matter.

Agree. The area here is taking a hit and it currently seems like every day something catastrophic is taking place.

Call it luck or a blessing but that's about the best case scenario that could have worked out after sliding through a bridge without getting anything, especially if they can get them secured at that location!

Thanks for the update!
