I have MDs, jurists, elected officials, etc. in my circle of acquaintance with whom I sometimes differ greatly on political views. Having them available to me 24/7 is better for me long-term than me trying to convince them that my political views are more correct than their way of thinking.
*He wouldn't, but it makes a good story and I tell it so well.

My half brother who grew up in South America went to med school in South American for like 2 grand. Now he wants to come to the US and he has to redo residency and he says it kinda sucks having to relearn everything in a different language.

I think you don't understand the need for doctors in the US. Foreign trained or not, they will find employment.
I don't think you understand the residency system in the United States. If they can't get a residency spot, they can't practice in the United States. There are more applicants than residency spots and you can't just snap your fingers and make more.

Outside of rural areas, there really isn't a doctor shortage, and it doesn't matter how many people you train, people don't want to live in places like Monroe, Alexandria, etc.

They all do when they're interviewing for medical school!

Yup and the actual advantage of Ross is you get to pick where you take clinicals unlike any other school.
One of the employees at my wife's clinic has elected to attend Ross starting this year.
I don't know if I could go to a place like that. I'd probably drop out of school, end up selling margaritas on the beach, and banging chicks who recently got divorced on a getaway Caribbean vacation.
Not that there is anything wrong with banging divorcees.

After reading all of this, is there anyway to find a list of ROSS MD grads, so I can mark them off my list of physicians??

Official languages: English, Kwéyòl and Island Carib
Ethnic groups (2015)
85% Black
10% Mixed
3.5% Kalinago
0.8% European
0.7% others
Dominican Government: Unitary parliamentary republic
• President Charles Savarin
• Prime Minister Roosevelt Skerrit
Area
• Total 290 sq mi
Population
• 2016 census 72,324
Per capita GDP: $7,022
Looking at the per capita GDP, tells me most people don't have enough cash to pay a Dr.
I would tell your friend to attend Medical School in Grenada. I went there in 2012 and the people like Americans, because we kicked out the hard line communists and the Cubans.

I go to a Caribbean med school. I can help to answer any questions if you still have any

Yeah there are a couple of residents at my wife's hospital from Ross. Not the brightest bulbs

I know several Ross Grads practicing medicine in Baton Rouge

Once they're finished with school, etc, can't they come back to the island and open a practice?
I'm sure the few rich people on the island get sick. Otherwise, you'll be getting paid in chicken, carrots and cocaine.

For a nominal fee you too can become a citizen of Dominica.
This from Wikipedia:
The nationality law of Dominica authorizes the government to waive the normal requirement of seven years of legal residence to acquire citizenship in exchange for a cash contribution.
Total costs excluding all fees for a single applicant are US$100,000, with a discount for additional passports for spouses and children.
Alternatively, since 2014, applicants can make a US$200,000 real estate investment, in which case the cost of citizenship is US$50,000.

Louisiana has a lot of Caribbean grads. Partly because this is not the most desirable place to live (so Caribbean grads get a lot of the less desirable residency spots) and the Caribbean grads seem to get preference over DOs here.
I think most of the Caribbean grads that make it through residency are fine. There are plenty of dumb (relatively) doctors out there. Like I've said in this thread, it's just becoming less and less of a good idea. The guy that just posted that's a current Caribbean student is probably scared he won't find a residency.
Personally, I'd advise people to not go into medicine if you can't do US allopathic, but I'd hate the idea of a lot of specialties not being an option.

I lived on an equally trashy island for 2 years. I have no desire to ever live there ever again

Meh. I know some people are better than others, but they all have to pass the same tests and go through the same interviews to get residency and practice as an MD (or DO) in the U.S.

I'm not worried at all. For the past several years, my school is matching more and more students into competing residencies.
