Roomba vs traditional vacuum

I have a single-story home with mostly carpet and a dog that sheds. Does anyone have experience with Roombas enough to speak on whether they’re worth the extra money, and get the job done?
For reference, I’m looking at an 980 roomba vs a standard vacuum, and the roomba is a little over double the price.

Good enough for day to day, but you will still need to use a regular vacuum at least once a week.

Roombas are good for minor maintenance, you still need to vacuum, just slightly less

Like ours fine. Every so often we go back and sweeper, but all in all it’s worth it.

Have a house with a golden retriever. we have the base model Roomba. It does great with cleaning up the hair. We have all hard wood floors. It cleans for 2 hours then goes back to the charger. The only time it has gotten stuck was when we left stuff on the floor. I’m a fan of it.

Roombas are awesome for anyone who owns a pet.
I run it twice a week for dog hair. If I’m deep cleaning I use a real vacuum and mop. Best thing I’ve bought aside from a vitamix.

I live in a single story home too, but it's got plenty of steps and obstructions that makes a Roomba problematic. I like Roombas, I think they work.
But a great cordless vacuum stick like a Dyson would have been a far better choice for us all along (we've done a couple roombas and a couple of different vacuums before the V8 or whatever). Probably would have saved a grand in vacuums over the years.
I don't mind vacuuming if I can do it for four minutes here and there as needed and then hang the thing back up again.

I hate the Roomba.
Doesn't do a great job.
Can't run when not home in case dog or cat shits/poops.
Takes forever to vacuum.
I prefer to just old school vacuum a few nights a week.

We have both. The "roomba" is good with helping control the dog hair but you still need a regular vacuum as well. We have the IQ Shark Robot. It self empties so if you're a major slob it helps big time

Roombas are for lazy slobs who have no idea how much filth those things miss. Also, Blendtec > Vitamix.

Also, we have to clean out the roomba dust pan every day since we run it daily.

Ours doesn't do well on carpet or on pet hair. We have jsut the basic model though. Don't know the model number.
It does keep the hardwoods pretty clean though.

I have a roomba 960 (might be an 80, idk) and time throughout my entire house with a boxer who sheds relentlessly
The roomba has been everything I’ve needed, and I have zero complaints after about 2 years of use. Between my two kids and my dog, this thing has taken a beating and has been reliable as frick.
When I first got it, I thought it was a gimmick, or not nearly as good as advertised, but not was I wrong. We let the thing run one time, and I got on the floor and rolled around with black sweatpants and a black hoodie on, and I had zero dog hair on my clothes after.
Like someone earlier said, you’ll still need to spot sweep and vacuum every now and then, but this machine is incredible.
Forgot to mention that in two years, I’ve been through only two sets of rollers and six filters, so the maintenance has been minimal

Roombas are cheaper in the long run, but you can’t have sex with a Roomba.

Get the Roomba and run it every day while at work. If carpet you will probably have to empty it everyday but it is worth it.
Get a regular vacuum for the weekend or every other weekend. Nothing is going to beat a normal sweep or vacuum.
For fun, take a normal vacuum and go over an area or room. Then get the Roomba to do the same area. You'd be surprised how much it still picks up.
I will never go without one again. If I were you though I would go for a cheaper model or brand and get a decent vacuum. I have a base model Roomba that has been going strong for 2 years.
